Gluten Free Bean Dip

With just three ingredients, you can whip up a delicious snack for your party! Once you have the ingredients mixed up, all you have to do is find some delicious dippers to serve with your warm dip. To make your own gluten free bean dip at home, you’ll need:

  • Refried beans. Look for a brand of gluten free refried beans to add to your bean dip to ensure all the ingredients in your dip are safe to eat! Keep reading to see some of my favorite gluten free refried beans.
  • Velveeta. To give your bean dip its creamy, cheesy texture, Velveeta is a great choice! You can use name brand Velveeta or your favorite generic cheese product.
  • Chopped jalapenos. Add some spice to your bean dip with the help of chopped jalapeno peppers. I used pickled jalapenos, but you can also add fresh peppers to your dip. If you’re using pickled peppers, make sure to check the jar before adding your peppers to ensure they’re gluten free.

What Brand of Refried Beans are Gluten Free?

Since refried beans are naturally gluten free, you can find a variety of different brands offering this tasty ingredient. When you’re looking in the store for gluten free refried beans, always check the back of the can for the “gluten free” label. These brands are labeled gluten free:

Is Velveeta Gluten Free?

While Velveeta cheese is not labeled as gluten free, it is made without any gluten-containing ingredients. That’s why it’s widely acknowledged as a gluten free option by the gluten-free community as a safe option when cooking.

Before adding any of the bean dip ingredients to the bowl of your slow cooker, I suggest spraying some nonstick cooking spray around the sides and bottom of the bowl. You could also use slow cooker liners to help keep the cheese and beans from sticking to the sides of the slow cooker as the dip heats up.

After preparing your slow cooker, spread the refried beans in an even layer over the bottom of the bowl.

After that, take a few minutes to cut the Velveeta loaf into one-inch cubes. This will help the cheese melt more quickly and evenly in the slow cooker.

Spread the cubes of cheese over the top of the refried beans in an even layer.

Next, sprinkle your chopped jalapeno peppers over the top of the cheese. To adjust the spiciness of your dip, add more or less jalapenos to the bowl.

After that, all that’s left to do is place the lid on the slow cooker and let it do its thing! Cook the dip on low for around 2 hours. I wouldn’t suggest cooking this recipe on high because it may cause the cheese to burn.

After around one hour of cooking, take the lid off the slow cooker and stir the ingredients together. Then, replace the lid and let the dip continue cooking.

Gluten Free Velveeta Bean Dip

Since this recipe is so simple to make, it’s easy to customize. Try these recipe adjustments and additions to help you create a delicious snack for any occasion:

  • Try fresh jalapenos. Instead of using canned jalapenos for your bean dip, try chopping some fresh jalapenos. You’ll need around one fresh jalapeno for this dip. After removing the seeds and membrane from the inside of the pepper, simply dice it into fine pieces and add it to the slow cooker. The crockpot will help cook and soften the pepper.
  • Use cream cheese instead of Velveeta. I love the creaminess and flavor of Velveeta cheese, but I know it’s not for everyone! If you’re looking for a simple alternative for your cheesy bean dip, simply substitute two 8-ounce packages of cream cheese for the Velveeta in this recipe.
  • Add some garnishes. Once you have your dip prepared and ready to serve, dress it up with some garnishes. There are a variety of delicious ways to decorate the top of your dip to make it look amazing and add more flavor to the appetizer. Try topping your bean dip with:
    • Chopped green onions
    • Shredded cheese
    • Taco seasoning
    • Sliced jalapenos
    • Sour cream
    • Drizzle of taco sauce
