Gluten Free Appetizer with Pickles
Finding delicious gluten free appetizers can sometimes be difficult. But with this easy appetizer with pickles, you don’t have to worry about gluten at all! And they’re also low carb, which means they’re perfect for anyone on Keto or other low carb diets.
These easy pickles are made with only four ingredients:
- Mini dill pickles
- Cream cheese
- Shredded cheddar jack cheese
- Thinly sliced deli ham
That’s it! With these four simple ingredients, you’re on your way to enjoying some delicious pickle appetizers.
The first step to making your pickle appetizers is to prepare the pickles. For this recipe, I used mini pickles because they’re just so cute! These mini pickles may look like bread and butter gherkins, but they’re actually mini dill pickles. The pickles I used for my appetizer recipe were Vlasic Snack’mms Mini Dill Pickles.
To prep your pickles for your appetizer, start by slicing each mini dill pickle in half lenthwise. Then, use a spoon to scoop out the center of each pickle half, being careful not to cut the bottom of the pickle. After you have remove the center of the pickles, flip them over on top of a paper towel to soak up some of the juice and dry the pickles. This will help your cream cheese stuffing stick when you spread it into the center of each pickle.

Stuffed Pickle Appetizer
Now that your pickles have had plenty of time to dry out, it’s time to start stuffing! But before you can stuff your pickles, you’ll need to mix up the stuffing.
Start by adding all the ingredients to a mixing bowl, including the softened cream cheese and shredded cheese. Now I know I said this recipe was just four ingredients, but you can add to those four base ingredients to add more flavor to your pickle appetizers. Sprinkling in some garlic powder and black pepper is a great way to take the flavor of your appetizer recipe up a notch!
Mix up all the ingredients until they’re well combined, then spread a small amount of stuffing along the top of each pickle half. Try not to overstuff your pickles because it will become difficult to put the appetizers together if you do.
When all your pickles are stuffed, put the pickle haves back together. Make sure to match up each half to its correct side so all your pickles line up after you put them together. Carefully squeeze the pickle halves together so they stay stuck without squeezing so hard that you squirt the filling out the sides.
Now it’s time to start wrapping! Wrap each pickle with a piece of thinly sliced ham. You may need to trim the slices so that they are the same length as your pickles, without leaving any ham hanging over the ends of the stuffed pickles. Cover the wrapped pickles and chill them in the fridge for at least an hour before serving to give the cream cheese time to stiffen back up.
Finish by sticking two toothpicks into the pickles — one on each end. Then, use a sharp knife to slice each of your stuffed pickles in half. Place them on a serving plate and set them out for your party guests. I bet these delicious appetizers won’t last long!
