What is Taco Dip Made Of?
This recipe for taco dip with meat uses a variety of traditional taco ingredients, along with Velveeta cheese to give it the look of dip.
To make this easy taco dip recipe, you’ll need:
- Ground beef. This hearty taco dip starts with ground beef, just like you were making a traditional taco.
- Taco seasoning: You can use store-bought taco seasoning or make your own. If you’re making this dip gluten free, always be sure to check the ingredients of your seasoning packet to make sure it’s OK to eat.
- Refried beans: Another traditional taco ingredient included in this dip recipe is refried beans, which adds to the creaminess of this yummy appetizer.
- Diced tomatoes with chilies: Using Rotel, or diced tomatoes with chilies, adds a classic queso flavor to this dip, along with some spice.
- Velveeta: The key to the creamy texture of this warm dip is the use of Velveeta, which is perfect for creating a delicious cheesy dip.
After gathering up your ingredients, it’s time to start building your taco dip. The first step is to brown the ground beef. Cook until the beef is fully cooked, then add the taco seasoning with a little bit of water. Continue cooking until the sauce has reduced.
How to Make Gluten Free Taco Dip
After the meat is cooked through, you can add your refried beans and diced tomatoes with chilies. I suggest stirring these ingredients together before adding the cheese. It will make it easier to ensure your beans are mixed well and not chunky.
When all the ingredients are well mixed, you can add your Velveeta to the pan. To make melting the cheese easier, it’s a good idea to cut the Velveeta into one-inch cubes before putting it into the pan.
Then, use your spoon to continually stir the dip until the cheese is fully melted. Don’t leave the dip alone during this step or the cheese may begin to burn. You’ll need to make sure to keep stirring as it cooks.
After that, all you need to do is garnish your taco dip! I used sour cream and sliced jalapeno to garnish my taco dip, but there are a vareity of other great options for garnish. Consider adding one or all of these delcicious toppings:
- Chopped green onion
- Black olives that are thinly sliced
- Chopped cilantro
- Chopped tomatoes
- Lettuce
- Guacamole
- Sliced avocadoes
What Can I Serve with Warm Taco Dip?

- Tortilla chips: You can’t go wrong when enjoying taco dip with tortilla chips. And since most varieties are gluten free, you have several options to choose from.
- Corn chips: Another great choice for dipping in your cheesy taco dip are corn chips. And they’re another great option for your gluten free guests, too.
- Veggies: Keep your carb count low by using vegetables to dip in your taco dip. Good veggie options for dipping include carrot chips, bell pepper slices, baby carrots, and celery sticks.
Is Velveeta gluten free?
If you’re wondering whether Velveeta is gluten free, you’re in luck! Kraft is great about labeling gluten and wheat on their products. Since Velveeta is not made with any gluten-containing ingredients, it’s safe to eat if you’re gluten free. If you plan on using a generic option, always check the label before you add it to your dip!
