Popsicle Stick Witch
Halloween kids’ crafts don’t get much easier than this witch popsicle stick craft! That’s because you don’t need any fancy supplies to put it together!
This is one of our favorite Halloween crafts to make! That’s because your kids are going to love how easy it is to put together, and you’re going to love the simple supply list! All you need to make your own popsicle stick witch is:
- Large popsicle sticks: To make the body for your Halloween ghost, you’ll need large popsicle sticks. You can usually find these in the craft section of Wal-Mart or Dollar Tree.
- Small popsicle stick: In addition to the large sticks, you’ll also need one small stick to serve as the support to hold your ghost together.
- Purple popsicle sticks: Making the hat for your witch will require three small purple popsicle sticks. We used pre-colored purple sticks from a pack of rainbow popsicle sticks. But you can also use some purple paint on plain wooden sticks if you don’t have any colorful sticks at home.
- Purple construction paper: In addition to the purple sticks, you’ll also need some purple paper to make your witch hat. You can use plain construction paper or scrapbook paper to make your witch hat.
- Black pipe cleaners: Add some spooky black hair to your witch with the help of some black pipe cleaners! You’ll need at least four pipe cleaners for one witch.
- Googly eyes: You can’t make a witch without some googly eyes. If you don’t have any on hand, simply draw some witch eyes onto your face with a marker.
- Green paint: Transform your plain wooden popsicle sticks into a spooky witch with the help of green paint. I suggest using acrylic craft paint when painting popsicle sticks. It’s non-toxic, making it perfect for kids!
How to Make a Popsicle Stick Witch
Now that you have all your craft supplies gathered up and ready to go, it’s time to start crafting! Follow these simple instructions for making your own popsicle stick witch at home today.
The first step to making this fun Halloween popsicle stick craft is to build the base of your witch’s face. Start by lining up four popsicle sticks in a row on a flat surface. After that, take your small popsicle stick and cut it in half. Glue each half to the back of the large sticks and press the pieces in place until the glue dries.
Once the glue is dry, flip the popsicle sticks over and paint the front of the sticks green. You may need to use a couple coats of paint to fully cover the wood.
While the paint is drying on your witch’s face, take a few minutes to put the witch hat together. First, glue two sticks together to form an upside down V shape. Then, glue the third purple stick long the bottom to make a triangle.
Finish making the witch hat by placing your popsicle stick triangle on a piece of purple construction paper. Trace around the triangle, then use a pair of scissors to cut the triangle out. After that, glue the paper to the back of the popsicle stick triangle to finish creating your witch’s hat.
Once the paint is dry on your witch’s face, you can start putting the witch craft together. First, make your witch’s hair by bending four popsicle sticks in half to create a V. Glue the top of the V to the top of the popsicle stick face, then hold the pipe cleaners down until the glue dries.
Next, add the witch hat to the top of the hair. Spread a line a glue over the top of the pipe cleaners, then press the witch hat in place. Hold the hat until the glue dries to make sure it’s secure.
The final step to putting this fun Halloween craft together is to draw the face. Start by attaching two googly eyes with glue. Then, use a black marker to draw a nose and mouth.

Try these ideas for craft adjustments and additions will help you create a unique Halloween witch with your kids:
- Try different paint colors. Green is a common color for a witch’s face, but it’s not the only option! Try using different paint colors on the witch’s face for a unique Halloween project.
- Add a scary face. This kid-friendly craft is perfect for little ones because it’s not scary. But if your kids want to have some fun adding a spooky element to their craft, let them draw a scary face on their witch.
- Use different materials for the hair. We loved the wirey look that the pipe cleaners gave our witch’s hair. But there are a few other materials you can use to create hair for your witch! Try using black yarn or strips of construction paper to make hair for your witch.
- Decorate your witch hat. Have some fun getting creative with the hat on your kid’s witch craft by adding some decorations. Sequins, feathers, glitter, and ribbon are all great additions!
