Gluten Free Crab Dip Recipe
The base of this dip is cream cheese, giving it a smooth and creamy texture that matches well with just about anything you dip in it.

To make this easy crab dip recipe, you’ll need:
- Cream cheese
- Mayonnaise
- Old Bay seasoning
- Mozzarella cheese
- Crabmeat
Since the star of this dip is the crab, you’re probably wondering what type of crab meat you can use in crab dip. There are a few different options to choose from:
- Lump crab meat: If you want to get fancy with your crab dip, you can choose lump crab meat to add to your dip. This type of crab meat is pulled directly from the crab, making it the most expensive option.
- Canned crab meat: A cheaper option that still allows you to use real crab meat is to add canned crab meat to your dip. Keep in mind that canned crab meat has a slightly different flavor than fresh lump crab meat and it has more salt added.
- Imitation crab meat: Another budget-friendly option for your crab dip is imitation crab meat. While this type of crab meat looks and tastes similar to real crab meat, it’s actually made from pollock. But when you mix it in with the rest of the dip ingredients, you can’t really taste a difference.
No matter which type of crab meat you choose, you don’t have to worry about adding gluten to your dip. All of these crab meat options are gluten free, making them perfect for making this gluten free crab dip recipe.

After picking the type of crab meat you’ll use in your dip, it’s time to make it! Start by combining all the ingredients in a large bowl. I suggest using a hand mixer to beat the ingredients together so they’re nice and smooth.
Then, spread the mixture in an even layer in a baking dish. You can keep the dip as-is or top it with some more cheese to give it a nice golden brown layer on top.
After that, all you have to do is place the dip in the oven to bake for around 30 minutes. Once you notice the edges of the dip turning a golden brown, it’s ready to be served. Garnish the dip with some green onions to add a little color, then serve with your favorite dippers.

While this crab dip is gluten free, many of the popular dipping options that traditionally go along with crab dip aren’t. If you don’t have to worry about gluten, you can enjoy your crab dip with:
- Toasted bread slices
- Crackers
- Soft pretzels
- Pita bread
But since I want this dip to be completely gluten free, I had to come up with some dipping alternatives. These gluten free dippers are a great choice when enjoying your crab dip:
- Tortilla chips: You can’t go wrong when enjoying dip with tortilla chips. And since most varieties are gluten free, you have several options to choose from.
- Gluten free crackers: Another great choice for dipping in your crab dip are gluten free crackers. I love Good Thins corn crackers, and I’m sure they’d pair well with this dip.
- Veggies: Keep your carb count low by using vegetables to dip in your crab dip. Good veggie options for dipping include carrot chips, bell pepper slices, baby carrots, and celery sticks.

Is crab dip gluten free?
If you’re wondering whether crab dip is gluten free, the answer is it depends. While some recipes don’t use any gluten-containing ingredients, others do. Some crab dip recipes are even topped with breadcrumbs. That’s why it’s a good idea to make your own crab dip instead of relying on someone else. That way, you know exactly what’s in the recipe before you eat it.
