How to Make a Paper Plate Spider
This simple craft is so easy to make because it only uses a few common craft supplies. That means all your kids can put this Halloween art project together, no matter their ages.
Before you can start putting your paper plate spider together, you’ll need to paint your plate. Use black paint to cover a white plate, then allow the paint to dry completely. For this craft, we used a small six-inch paper plate. But if you don’t have any on hand, a full-sized plate will also work to make a larger spider.
When the paint on your paper plate has finished drying, fold the plate in half lengthwise to make a semi-circle. This half-circle will be the body of your Halloween spider.
Create the legs for your paper plate spider by lining up four pipe cleaners in an even line on the table. Twist the pipe cleaners together at the center to secure them in a bunch. When the center is tightened, spread the pieces apart to create spider legs.
Flip the paper plate upside down so that the fold of the plate is resting on the table. Place the leg bunch in the center of the paper plate, then glue it down to secure the legs in place. Hold the pipe cleaners on the glue for a minute to give the glue a chance to dry.
When the glue has dried, fold the paper plate back over the top of the pipe cleaners. Bend each pipe cleaner leg several times to form a zig zag pattern.
Finish making your paper plate spider by gluing several googly eyes to the top of the body. I found these red googly eyes at Dollar Tree, but you could also use plain black eyes for your spider craft.
Now that your Halloween spider craft is complete, it’s time to play! Your kids can make this spider move by setting the spider up on the sides of the paper plate. Press one end of the plate down and he will rock back and forth!
