Creepy Halloween Jars
These creepy Halloween jars make great decorations for inside or out! You can hang them on your front porch to give your house a spooky feel or display them inside to add some creepy ambiance to any room.

To make your own Halloween lanterns, you’ll just need a handful of simple craft supplies, including:
- Mason jars
- White and black Halloween cloth
- Battery operated tea lights
- Halloween lights
- Twine
- Plastic spiders
- Small black bird
I was able to save a little money by purchasing most of the supplies for this Halloween craft at Dollar Tree. The Halloween cloth, tea lights, Halloween lights, and plastic spiders were all found at the dollar store. And I had extra jars and twine at home already!
Halloween Jar Lanterns

Start by adding the lights to the inside of your jars. Since you’ll be wrapping the jars, it’s a good idea to add the lights first because it will be difficult to reach inside the jars once the decorations are added.
While I used mason jars for this craft, you can use any type of jar to make your Halloween lanterns. The jars will be completely covered with fabric, so you won’t be able to see them after they’re decorated.

After adding your lights, it’s time to start decorating your creepy Halloween jars! Wrap the Halloween cloth around the outside of the jar until the jar is completely covered. I used a white cloth with red bloodstains on it to wrap one lantern. Inside this lantern was the tea light.

On the other jar, I added the black net fabric. Inside this jar was the purple Halloween light pack from Dollar Tree. I love the spooky effect the purple lights give to the black fabric when it’s lit!

After decorating each of your Halloween jars with fabric, you can start making the handle for your lanterns. First, cut a long string of twine and wrap it around the top of the jar several times.

Then, pull the end of the string under all the layers wrapped around the jar and tie a knot to secure the string in place. Pull the end of the string through the layers of twine on the other side of the jar, but don’t pull the string completely through.

Instead, pull the end back to the other side to create a loop on top of the jar. Tie the end of the string to the strand on the side of the jar and knot it to ensure the handle stays in place when you hang your creepy Halloween jars.
How to Decorate with Creepy Jars

Now that you have the base of your Halloween lanterns finished, you can add some decorations to your jars. There are so many great ways to decorate your jars, like:
- Plastic spiders climbing up the fabric
- A blackbird perched on top of the jar
- Bats flying up the side of the lantern
- Spider webs hanging off each lantern
- A mini skull or skeleton hanging on the jar
- A rat or mouse resting on top of the lanterns
With so many great ways to decorate your mason jar Halloween lanterns, you’re sure to find some fun ways to add some creepiness to your Halloween decor!
And after you add your embellisments, you’ll need to find the perfect place to hang your creepy mason jars! You could:
- Hang the jars along your front porch to make your home look like a haunted house
- Place the jars around your Halloween party for ambient lighting
- Carry the jars as part of your spooky Halloween costume
- Place the jars on Shepherd’s hooks around your yard to light it up for Halloween
- Hang the jars on your mantle to create a spooky look
