How to Make a Spider
Making a cute Halloween spider craft is so simple! Learn how to make a spider with these craft supplies:
- orange and purple craft sticks
- orange and purple pom poms
- black pipe cleaner
- googly eyes
- glue
Wondering how to make a spider? It’s so easy a child of any age could do it with a little guidance, especially kids in preschool. Start by making the legs with some black pipe cleaner. First, cut two pipe cleaner in half, then lay the strips of pipe cleaner on a flat surface next to each other. Twist them together in the center, then fan the pipe cleaners out to make legs. Finish by bending each of the ends to create feet for your Halloween spider craft.
After creating the legs for your Halloween spider craft, use some glue to put a pom pom body on top of the legs. We used classic Halloween colors for our spider web craft — purple and orange. Finally, add a set of googly eyes to the top of the spider.
And that’s how to make a spider! But we’re not finished yet! Now, we’re going to turn your cute pom pom spiders into fun spider puppets. Flip each spider over and glue a stick to the back of the legs to easily transform your pipe cleaner spider into a cute puppet for your spider web craft.
Halloween Spider Web Craft
Now that you have a cute pom pom spider puppet, it’s going to need a web to crawl on! Keep scrolling to see how to finish making this fun spider web craft.
To make the web for your Halloween spider craft, you’ll need:
- a paper plate
- crayons or markers
- scissors
First, draw a web on the paper plate using a black crayon or marker. To create a bright and festive spider web craft like the one my kids and I made, use an orange or purple crayon to color in the rest of the plate. But this step is totally optional! It would be just as fun with a white background and black spider web!
The final step in making your own spider web craft is to cut a slit in the center of the plate. I suggest that you use a pair of sharp scissors to cut a small hole in the center of the plate, then have your child finish cutting the line. Just make sure not to cut all the way to the ends of the plate or your spider web craft will fall apart!
My favorite part about this Halloween spider craft is that your kids will have just as much fun playing with it as they do making it! After cutting the slit in the center of the plate, place the spider puppet’s stick through the slit. Then, your child can move the spider around it’s spider web. How fun is that?!
