DIY New Year’s Noisemakers

My favorite part about this craft is that you’ll need just a handful of simple supplies to make your own toilet paper roll noisemakers. How easy is that?

To make your New Year’s Eve noisemakers, you’ll just need these five craft supplies:

  • Cardboard tube: To create the base of your hat, you’ll need an empty cardboard tube. You can use an empty toilet paper roll or paper towel roll. If you use a paper towel roll, you will need to trim it to fit the size of the paper wrapper.
  • Printable wrapper: This craf is so simple because all you have to do is print and wrap! Keep reading to see how to get my printable Happy New Year wrapper, then print it on copy paper.
  • Popsicle stick: Adding a popsicle stick to the bottom of your noisemaker will make it easy for your kids to shake as they celebrate.
  • Ribbon: Decorate your New Year’s noisemaker with some curling ribbon to give it a fun and festive look.
  • Beans: You can’t make a noisemaker without something that makes noise! Add some beans to your toilet paper roll to give your kids something to shake.

In addition to these simple craft supplies, it’s also a good idea to have a stapler on hand. The staples will help seal the top and bottom of your cardboard tube so the beans don’t fall out as the kids shake their noisemakers.

How to Make a Noise Maker

This tutorial is one of the easiest ways I’ve found to make a noise maker with your kids. And once you’re finished making them, all the little ones at your party will have a blast shaking their noise makers.

Once you have your wrapper printed out, cut it out around the outer border. After that, press the toilet paper roll flat, then wrapp the printable around the roll to cover it. Secure the wrapper in place with some glue or tape.

Next, you’ll need to seal the bottom of the shaker to prevent the beans from coming out. Start by placing the popsicle stick in the center of the toilet paper roll and securing it in place with a staple. After that, you can decorate the bottom of the tube with some curling ribbon.

I found it was easiest to secure the ribbon in place by putting it on the back of the tube. Once you have it situated where you want it, use your stapler to staple the ribbon to the back of the tube. Continue stapling along the bottom of the tube until it’s fully closed.

Once you’re sure the bottom of the tube is sealed, you can add your beans. It’s important that you only fill the toilet paper roll halfway full of beans. If you over-fill the tube, there will be too many beans inside the tube for them to make noise. That’s why it’s a good idea to leave plenty of space inside your noisemaker for the beans to move around as your kids shake.

Now that you have the beans added to your noisemaker, the only thing left to do is seal the top. Use your stapler to close the top of the noisemaker.

To use the noisemaker, just hold the handle in your hand and shake. The harder you shake, the louder the rattling will be!

DIY Noisemaker Ideas

There are so many different ways you can make this fun craft! That means it’s perfect for any party. Use these DIY noisemaker ideas to come up with a fun party craf that’s perfect for your next celebration.

  • Use a different wrapper. While this craft is made with a printable New Year’s Eve wrapper, there’s no reason you couldn’t make your own DIY party noisemakers for any occasion. Instead of wrapping the toilet paper roll with the printable, try using scrapbook paper, construction paper, or even wrapping paper to decorate the tube.
  • Add more decorations. Another fun way to dress up your noisemakers is with additional decorations. Let your kids get creative when decorating their own noisemakers by adding fun elements like stickers, glitter, sequins, or drawings using markers or crayons.
  • Try different fillers. Beans make a great addition to your New Year’s Eve noisemakers, but there are a variety of other items you could add to your toilet paper tubes. As you’re putting your shakers together, try adding different fillers for different sounds. Ingredients like rice, pasta, or bells all make great filler options.
