Halloween Ghost Jar with Cricut SVG

Decorating your home for Halloween can be so much fun when you DIY! And what better way to add some spookiness to your home decor than with a few Halloween mason jar crafts? This cute ghost jar is the perfect DIY project for the spooky holiday. Use it to decorate your home or fill it with candy to pass out as adorable Halloween gifts this year.

Don’t you just love making fun Halloween crafts to celebrate the holiday? With the help of your Cricut, you can put together a super cute mason jar project with just a few minutes of work.

All you need are some mason jars, paint, and vinyl to put this easy farmhouse DIY project together! And with the help of your favorite cutting machine, it only takes a few minutes to make your own ghost mason jar.

My favorite part about this easy Halloween party craft is that you only need a handful of supplies to put it together. In fact, I bet you already have everything you need in your craft room right now!

To make this simple mason jar craft, you’ll need just a few simple supplies. Transform a plain glass jar into a ghost using these supples:

• Mason jar: The most important supply you’ll need to create this fun craft is a mason jar! I used a quart jar to create this project, but any size jar will work depending on how you plan to use your ghost jars after you’re finished making them.
• White chalk paint: I love the rustic look of chalk paint on mason jars, but you can use any type of white paint. If you’re using a different type of paint, make sure it’s designed for painting glass or you may end up with a streaky mess on your jars.
• Paintbrush: I love using a foam brush when painting my mason jars. You can also use a traditional paintbrush, just be sure to pick a brush with soft bristles to prevent brush strokes from showing on the jars.
• Ghost face SVG: Keep reading to see how to download my ghost face SVG so you can create your own ghost jars at home.
• Vinyl and transfer tape. Cut the SVG design on vinyl to make the face for your ghost. Since you’ll be using the vinyl as a sort of stencil, the color or design doesn’t really matter.
• Cricut: To cut the face for your ghost jars, you’ll need a cutting machine to cut the vinyl. I use the Cricut Explore Air 2 and love it!

How to Make a Ghost Jar

Using your Cricut is a quick and easy way to transfrom a plain glass jar into a cute Halloween decoration. All you have to do is follow these simple steps to decorate your mason jars with a fun ghost face.

Before you can cut your ghost face on using your Cricut, you’ll need to download the ZIP file and extract your SVG. Then, you can upload it into Design Space. First, select the “upload” button in the left-hand menu of the program. Then, select the file or drag it into design space.

Once you have the SVG uploaded, you’ll need to resize it to fit on your jar. Since I used a quart sized jar, I made my face around 2.25 inches wide. I suggest measuring the front of the jar you’re using it see how wide you need to make your own ghost face before cutting the vinyl.

Once the design is resized, it’s a good idea to select each piece of the face and hit the “weld” button in the bottom right corner. This will ensure that the pieces stay in place when they’re cut.

Now it’s time to cut! Start by placing your vinyl on the cutting mat and load the mat into your Cricut. Turn the dial to vinyl, then hit the “make it” button at the top of the computer screen. Next, you’ll need to select “basic cut” and click continue. After the machine connects to your computer, the Cricut button will start flashing on your machine — push it to start cutting the vinyl.

Once the vinyl is cut, remove the mat from your Cricut and use a weeding tool to remove the excess vinyl from around the design. After that, place a piece of transfer tape over the top of the ghost face and transfer the vinyl from the backing paper to the jar.

If the vinyl won’t stick to the glass, it may need to be cleaned first. Just add a little bit of rubbing alcohol to a paper towel and wipe the face of the jar. Give the alcohol a few seconds to dry, the try sticking the vinyl onto the jar again.

Once the vinyl ghost face is placed on the jar, get your chalk paint and paintbrush and start painting the entire jar white. You’ll probably need several coats of chalk paint to completely cover the jar.

Allow the paint to dry completely, then grab your weeding tool one more time. Use the end of the hook to carefully remove the vinyl from the jar. If any paint seeped through under the edges of the vinyl, use the hook on your weeding to lightly scrape the extra paint away.
