Easy DIY Painted Snowman Mason Jar

Decorating with snowmen is one of my favorite ways to add a winter touch to my existing decor during the holiday season. But why buy a snoman from the store when you can make mason jar crafts instead? This easy painted snowman mason jar craft couldn’t be simpler to make! It’s the best way to add a rustic winter decoration to your home using just a handful of simple craft supplies.

You won’t believe how easy it is to turn a plain glass jar into a cute snowman with a little bit of paint! That makes this craft perfect for beginner crafters because you literally can’t mess it up!

In addition to being simple to make, this adorable craft can also be put together with just a handful of supplies. In fact, you probably already have everything you need to make your own rustic snowman in your craft supply storage right now.

Mason Jar Snowman Craft

The best part about this easy winter mason jar craft is that there are so many ways you can use it when you’re finsihed putting it together.

To make your own mason jar snowman craft, you’ll need just a few simple craft supplies, including:

• Mason jar with lid ring. To make the snowman craft, you need to make sure to have a lid ring for your mason jar. I used a large quart sized jar for my craft, but you can use any size you want to make your own snowman.
• White and black paint. When painting mason jars, I have found that acrylic and chalk paint are your best options. I also like to use a foam brush to paint the glass to avoid streaks while you paint. I used white chalk paint for the jar and black acrylic paint for the lid ring.
• Buttons. To decorate your painted jar like a snowman, you’ll need a few buttons. I used large red buttons, but you can use any size or color you want.
• Ribbon. The final item you’ll need to finish turning your jar into a snowman is ribbon. Plaid ribbon is a great option because it looks very similar to a real Christmas scarf.

How to Make a Mason Jar Snowman

Now that you have your supplies gathered up for your snowman jars, it’s time to start crafting! Follow these simple instructions for making your rustic winter decor for your farmhouse home.

The first step to turning your glass jar into a snowman is painting it white! I used white chalk paint to cover the outside of the jar in white with a foam brush. It took around three coats of paints to fully cover the jar.

While you wait for your paint to dry, you can add some black paint to the lid ring for the top of your jar. I used black acrylic paint for this step too, but it was a little more difficult to get the paint to stick. I think green spray paint would probably be a better option for painting the metal lid, but I didn’t have any on hand to try it out!

Once the white chalk paint is fully dry on your glass jar, it’s time to add the buttons. Grab your hot glue gun and glue three buttons in a straight line down the front of the jar.

Next, place the black lid ring on the top of the jar, then wrap a piece of wide ribbon around the jar right under the lid. Secure the ribbon in place by putting a couple of drops of hot glue on the back of the jar behind the ribbon.

Once you have the ribbon in place, thread the two ends together as though you’re going to tie a knot. Pull the ends tight, then put a drop of hot blue behind the fold. After that, carefully lay the top piece of ribbon over the fold so it looks like a scarf.

• Add an antiqued look. To give your jars a more vintage look, grab your sandpaper. Rough up the raised areas of your snowman jars, like the label and lines, to instantly make the jar look aged.
