Spooky Halloween Jars with Farmhouse Halloween Labels

Sharing is caring!

Decorating for Halloween is so much fun! I love creating unique Halloween decorations to add to my easy Halloween party decor each year. This year, I made some spooky Halloween jars filled with creepy items perfect for a Halloween spell. And the best part is that you can download my farmhouse style labels to make your own creepy Halloween jars!

I only spent $4 to make these jars — isn’t that awesome?!? I used a few things I already had at home, made my own labels, and got the jar fillers at Dollar Tree! They had so much amazing Halloween stuff in the store, it was hard to choose which items I wanted to fill up my jars.

I decided on some plastic eyeballs, stretchy centipedes, mini skulls, and plastic spider rings. That way, I was able to make four different jars filled with lots of creepy items to make it look like I have a witch’s pantry filled with everything I would need to cast a sinister spell.

The first thing you’ll need to do to make these creepy Halloween jars is to print out my farmhouse style labels. They work perfectly for a farmhouse style Halloween set-up because they include beautiful typography, an antiqued background and lovely silhouettes of Halloween staples (like spider webs, a raven, and bats). Keep reading to find out how you can get these awesome Halloween labels and make your own Halloween farmhouse DIY project.

After you download and print out your labels, glue them on to your mason jars. I used wide-mouth mason jars for my Halloween jars because it was easier to fill them full of the creepy Halloween items. I had four jars laying around that I wasn’t using, so I didn’t even have to buy any extras for this project! I love it when that happens!

Next, you’ll want to fill up your jars with your creepy Halloween items. I filled each jar almost to the top so I would have room for the water to fit into the jars later.

The final step to creating these creepy Halloween jars is to fill them with colored water. To do that, I just filled my measuring cup with water, then dropped in a few drops of food coloring and stirred. When the water reached the color I wanted, I poured it into the jars.

I started with my mini-skulls using purple water. I think the purple really makes the skulls pop inside the jar. Don’t they look super creepy? For this jar, I used the label “Shrunken Head.”

Next, I used orange food coloring to create the “Spider Venom.” Inside, you can see the creepy spider rings floating around, just waiting to be placed into a witch’s potion!

Up next are the “Pickled Centipedes.” Doesn’t that sound appetizing? I thought green would be the perfect color for this jar. In addition to giving the jar a more “pickled” look, it also really makes the black centipedes pop!

To finish, I filled my “Eye of Newt” with yellow water. I chose yellow since the eyes are already a light color, I didn’t want to over power them with a dark color that may make the eyeballs difficult to see. I love the bloodshot lines on these fun plastic eyeballs — it’s the perfect accent to my witch’s potion ingredients.

And that’s it! Can you believe how simple that was? And these jars really make an impact! Your guests will love peeking inside trying to guess what you used to create your witch’s potion ingredients.

I just found you through Cottage Market and I love your jars. My question is do you save the jar with the water for next year or do you dump it out and start over next year? I have a bunch of jars with labels and nothing inside so these will fit right in. I love these!

    1. I have saved the jars with the water in them from year to year without any issues. Just make sure the lids are screwed on super tight so the water doesn’t leak!
