Dollar Tree Toy Story Alien Ornament

All you need is a little bit of paint and some googly eyes to transform a blank ornament from the dollar store into an adorable Toy Story Alien! And the best part is that this simple Christmas craft is so easy to make, it’s perfect for kids of any age!

Toy Story Alien Ornament
You’re not going to believe how simple this ornament craft is to make. And even though it uses paint, there’s no mess involved!
But the best part about this simple craft is that you only need a handful of supplies to make it! You can grab everything you need to make your own Toy Story alien ornaments at Dollar Tree or Wal-Mart!
- Clear plastic globe ornament. I got the clear globe ornaments for this Toy Story craft at Dollar Tree, but you can also find blank ornaments similar to this at Wal-Mart and Amazon.
- Green acrylic paint. To add the green color to your alien ornaments, you’ll need paint. I suggest using acrylic craft paint. You can find bottles of paint in the craft aisle of Dollar Tree or Wal-Mart.
- Large googly eyes. To make things super easy for my kids, I found some googly eye stickers to use for this project, which means there was no gluing involved. I got the stickers at Wal-Mart, but you can also find traditional googly eyes in the craft aisle at Dollar Tree.
- Ribbon. We used plain black satin ribbon at the top of our alien ornaments to hang it on the tree. But you can use any color you want for this part of the craft! You could even add a hook to the top if you want!
How to Make a Toy Story Alien Ornament
Now that you have all your ornament craft supplies gathered up, it’s time to start getting creative! Get your kids ready to start making their own DIY Alien ornaments to hang on your Christmas tree.
The first step to making this fun Toy Story ornament craft is to paint the inside of your clear globes. The method you use to do this will depend on the consistency of your paint. If you’re using kid’s acrylic paint, like the kind you find at Dollar Tree, you may be able to simply pour the paint into the globe and spin the ornament to coat all the sides.
But if you’re using acrylic craft paint, like I did, you’ll need to add a very small amount of water to the paint to help it spread. Start by removing the top of the globe, then start adding a few squirts of paint around the sides of the globe. Next, add 1/4 teaspoon of water to the ornament.
Place a paper towel over the opening to keep the paint from spilling out, then let your kids twist and turn the globe around to move the paint around all the sides. You can continue adding more paint and a small amount of water to the inside of the ornament until it’s fully coated.
After all the sides of the globe are coated in paint, remove the paper towel from the opening on the top and carefully flip it over and rest the globe upside down on top of a disposable cup. As the ornament sits, the extra paint will drip out, so make sure you’re using a cup that you don’t mind throwing away!
Before your kids can start decorating the outside of your ornaments, you need to make sure all the extra paint has dripped out from the inside and that the paint is dry. Give the ornament at least four hours to sit upside down to ensure that it’s fully dry before letting your kids finish decorating.
When you’re ready to start decorating your alien ornaments, start by placing the top back on the ornament. Then, give your kids three googly eyes to attach to the front of the ornament.
If your googly eyes aren’t sticky on the back, I suggest using a hot glue gun to attach them to the front of the ornament to keep them from falling off while the ornaments are hanging on the Christmas tree.
After that, all that’s left to do is attach a piece of ribbon or a hook to the top of the ornament and hang it on your tree!
Toy Story Alien Ornament Craft Ideas

- Try different ornament sizes. You can also adjust the size of the ornaments to create a variety of aliens for your tree. Using smaller globes is a great way to vary the look of all your Toy Story Christmas decorations.
- Add some ears. Toy Story aliens have cute pointy ears, which means ears would be a great addition to your ornaments! Cut some ear shapes out of green construction paper and use a hot glue gun to attach them to the sides of the ornaments.
DIY Toy Story Alien Ornament
Turn a blank Dollar Tree plastic globe into an adorable Toy Story Alien ornament with this fun Christmas craft for kids.
Materials
- Clear plastic globe ornament
- Green acrylic paint
- Large googly eyes
- Ribbon

Instructions
- Remove the top from the globe ornament. Add a small amount of paint to the inside of the ornament. Place a paper towel over the top of the ornament and swirl it around to move the paint around the sides. If the paint is too thick, add 1/4 teaspoon of water and swirl the water around quickly inside the ornament.
- Continue adding paint as needed until all sides of the ornament are coated.
- Carefully flip the ornament over and place it on top of a disposable cup to catch any excess paint drips.
- Allow the paint to dry for at least 24 hours before placing the top back on the ornament.
- To finish decorating your alien ornaments, place three large googly eyes in the center of the globe.
- Tie a piece of ribbon to the top of the ornament to hang it on the tree.
