How to Make Toy Story Alien Cupcakes

These cupcakes are so easy to make that you only need four ingredients! To create your own alien cupcakes, you’ll need:

  • Cupcakes. You’ll need cupcakes to decorate for this recipe. You can make your favorite cupcake recipe, use a boxed mix like I did, or simply purchase some cupcakes from the store and remove the icing on top.
  • Icing. You’ll also need plain white icing for decorating. Again, you can make your favorite icing or use a jar of icing. The icing needs to be white so you can color it, so chocolate icing wouldn’t work for this decorating technique.
  • Green food coloring. To make the icing green, you’ll need to add green food coloring. I used neon green gel food coloring to get the color green on my cupcakes.
  • Candy eyes. To turn your green icing into alien faces, you’ll need candy eyes. I used three eyes for each cupcake, so you’ll need at least two packages of candy eyes or more depending on how many cupcakes you plan to decorate.

Once you have all your ingredients gathered, you can start decorating. But before you get started, you’ll need some cupcakes. If you’re using a boxed mix, prepare the cupcakes as directed on the package and let them cool completely. Add some green cupcake liners to the cupcakes before you start decorating.

Here’s a simple tip: If you don’t like the way the cupcake liners look after the cupcakes are done baking, try baking them with two liners in each cup. The inside liner will form around the cupcake and the outside liner will stay put. That way, the outside liner wil stay bright and cheerful without getting stuck to the cupcake.

When the cupcakes are cool, you can start decorating. Combine the icing with the green food coloring, adding a little bit at a time until you reach your desired shade of green. Then, scoop the icing into a piping bag and snip off the point.

Pipe the icing into a spiral on top of the cupcake, ending with a point on top to resemble the alien’s antennae. Continue piping swirls until all the cupcakes have been iced.

Carefully place three candy eyes in the center of the icing mound on each cupcake. Make sure your hands are dry as you place the eyes or they’ll start to smear. You can also use tweezers to put the eyes in place.

And that’s all you have to do! Continue adding eyes to each cupcake until they’re all decorated, then set them out on your favorite cupcake stand to display them for your Toy Story party.

  1. What piping tip did you use?

    1. I didn’t even use a tip for these! I just cut the tip off the piping bag and spiraled the icing on top.
