To turn your plain, boring string cheese into a fun Halloween party food for kids, you’ll need just a few simple supplies, including:

  • String cheese. You can use any brand of string cheese you want, just make sure to leave the cheese in the wrapper before you start decorating!
  • White streamers. White crepe paper streamers are the best option for this craft, but if you don’t have any on hand, you could also use white tissue paper, white ribbon, or gauze bandages.
  • Black marker. I suggest using a permanent marker for drawing the face on your ghost string cheese, especially if you plan on putting the snack in your kid’s lunch box. This will keep the face from smearing or running if it gets wet.
  • Googly eyes. The googly eyes are for the mummy string cheese. You could also use your black marker to draw a face on your mummy string cheese if you don’t have any googly eyes on hand.
  • Glue. You’ll need glue to attach the googly eyes to the front of your mummy string cheese. I used a low temperature hot glue gun for this part of the craft.
  • Tape. To make it easy for your kids to remove the Halloween string cheese decorations and eat the string cheese, I suggest attaching the streamers with tape.

How to Make String Cheese Mummies

You have two options when making your Halloween string cheese — ghosts or mummies. Let’s start with how to make string cheese mummies!

Star by securing the end of your streamer to the back of the string cheese with piece of tape. Start at the top of the cheese and wrap the streamer around the piece of cheese until it’s fully covered, then wrap back up the string cheese in the opposite direction.

It’s a good idea to leave the top visible so your kid can see where the opening is when they’re ready to eat the cheese. They can probably just pull the package open and rip the streamers off. Or just remove the tape and unwrap the streamers from the cheese when they’re ready to eat it.

Next, use your hot glue gun to attach two googly eyes to the front of your mummy string cheese. And that’s it! Now you have some adorable mummy snacks for your kids’ lunch boxes.

How to Make String Cheese Ghosts

In addition to mummies, you can also use your crepe paper streamers to turn your string cheese into ghosts. Here’s how to make this cute ghost craft.

Start by cutting two pieces of streamers long enough to cover the front and back of your string cheese. Lay the pieces on a flat surface, overlapping in the center. Tape the bottom of the string cheese and the top of the string cheese to the streamers.

Then, fold the streamers over the top of the string cheese to cover it. If the streamers don’t stay in place, you can roll up a piece of tape and secure it in the middle of the string cheese.

Once you have your ghost string cheese decorated, the last thing to do is draw a ghost face on the front. Use a permanent marker to draw two circles for eyes and a large oval for the ghost’s mouth.
