While it may seem like you could simply swap out the peanut butter for Nutella in your favorite monster cookie recipe, I have news for you. You can’t. I tried and ended up with one huge cookie that refused to cook until it was burnt.
That’s when I set out to come up with a Nutella cookie recipe that features the flavors of a monster cookie with the yumminess of Nutella. Add some red and green M&Ms to easily turn these into delicious gluten free Christmas cookies.
Gluten Free Nutella Cookies Recipe
To make these easy gluten free Nutella cookies, you’ll only need a few simple ingredients:
- Gluten free oats (both old-fashioned and quick cooking)
- Cocoa powder
- Sugar
- Eggs
- Nutella
- Butter
- Vanilla
- Salt
- Baking soda
- Chocolate chips
- Chocolate candy
To start making these delicious Nutella cookies, whisk together the gluten free oats, cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and baking soda.
Make a well in the center of your dry ingredients and add the Nutella, eggs, butter, and vanilla extract. Stir with a large spoon until all the ingredients are well combined.
Add the chocolate chips and chocolate candy and stir until they’re mixed into the batter. I like to reserve a few chocolate candies to place on top of the cookies so they look pretty when they’re finished baking.
The next step in this Nutella cookies recipe is to make the cookies. I like my monster cookies to be big, so I used an ice cream scoop to scoop the cookie dough onto the pan. If you plan on making large cookies, too, be sure to leave plenty of space between the cookies to allow them to spread.
After scooping the dough onto the pan, add a few more candies to the top of each cookie for decoration. Then, place the cookies in your preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. The cookies will be ready to come out when the edges are browned but the centers are still soft.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for around 10 minutes. When the cookies are firm, remove them from the baking sheet and place them on a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
Questions About Nutella Monster Cookies
This easy recipe for Nutella cookies is delicious and simple! But if you have questions as you’re baking, I probably have the answer!
Do I really need to buy two different kinds of oats?
There’s no reason to buy different kinds of oats for this Nutella cookies recipe. You can make your own quick-cooking oats by placing 2 cups of old fashioned oats in the blender and pulsing them until their ground.
How do I know when to take the gluten free cookies out of the oven?
If you want a nice, chewy Nutella cookie, remove the cookies from the oven when the centers are still soft. Then, let the cookies rest on the pan to continue cooking. When the center is firm, you can remove them from the pan and place them on a wire rake to finish cooling.
Should I flatten the cookies before baking?
There’s no need to flatten the cookies before they bake. They will spread as they cook, so keeping them in a mound will help keep the cookies from cooking too much in the center.
