Don’t you just love cereal treats? With this easy recipe, you can turn gluten free Chex cereal into a delicious sweet treat without ever turning on your oven!
This gluten free Easter treat recipe is packed with Easter fun. In addition to using pastel sprinkles, the also has mini chocoalte eggs and Funfetti baking chips in it too!

Gluten Free Easter Treats
The key to making these no bake gluten free treats is checking the label on all your ingredients. While each of the ingredients in this recipe are not made with gluten-containing ingredients, it’s always important to check the label before you add them to your dessert.

One thing I love about this festive Easter recipe is that you only need a handful of ingredients to prepare them! To make these easy gluten free Chex treats, you’ll need:
- Chex cereal: I used rice Chex for this recipe, but corn Chex would also work just fine. You can also use generic rice or corn cereal — just make sure to check the label before you mix in the cereal to be sure they’re gluten free. Generic Chex from Kroger and Aldi are both great gluten free options for this recipe.
- Butter: Using full-fat butter (not margarine) is important in this recipe. It’s also a good idea to use unsalted butter to prevent your cereal treats from tasting too salty.
- Marshmallows: I like using mini marshmallows when making cereal treats, but full-sized marshmallows will also work since you’ll be melting the marshmallows and mixing them in with the cereal.
- Funfetti baking chips: These colorful Funfetti baking chips from Pillsbury are an easy way to add some cake batter flavor to your treats without the gluten! Since these baking chips aren’t made with gluten-containing ingredients, they’re safe to mix in with your other cereal bar ingredients.
- Mini chocolate eggs: Top your cereal bars with mini chocolate eggs to add a fun easter touch to your treats.
- Pastel sprinkles: Another fun way to add a springy look to your cereal treats is with the help of pastel sprinkles. Don’t froget to check the package to ensure they’re gluten free because some sprinkle brands are made in facilities that process gluten-containing ingredients.
After looking at that list of ingredients, you may have a couple questions in mind, like:
- Are Cadbury mini eggs gluten free? The answer is maybe…While Cadubry mini eggs aren’t labeled as gluten free, they don’t include any gluten-containing ingredients in the recipe. There are also no warnings that the eggs may have come in contact with wheat, which means they’re probably safe to eat if your sensitive to gluten. But if you’re worried about possible cross contamination, scroll down to see some recipe substitutions you could use!
- Are Funfetti baking chips gluten free? Again, the answer is maybe…While Funfetti baking chips aren’t labeled as gluten free, no gluten-containing ingredients appear in the ingredient list. And in spite of their birthday cake flavoring, there are also no warnings that the chips may have come in contact with wheat, which means they’re probably safe to eat if your sensitive to gluten. But, again, if you’re worried about possible cross contamination, scroll down to see some recipe substitutions you could use!
How to Make Gluten Free Chex Bars
These Chex bars are so simple to make! That means you’re going to want to whip them up for every holiday!

To get started making these cereal treats, start by placing your butter in the bottom of a large stock pot. Make sure you use a large pan because the ingredients will quick fill it up!
Heat the butter over medium heat, moving it around the pan to help it melt more quick and keep the butter from burning.

Once the butter is melted, add the marshmallows to the pot. Reduce the heat to low and stir the marshmallows into the melted butter. Continue stirring the marshmallows until all the pieces are fully melted.

After that, add the baking chips to the pot and stir them in. Continue stirring until the chips are melted, then remove the pot from heat to keep the ingredients from burning on the bottom of the pan.

Once everything is melted and well combined, it’s time to add the cereal. Pour the entire box of cereal into the pot and stir to coat the cereal pieces in the marshmallow mixture.
To keep the cereal from getting crushed while you’re stirring, run the spoon along the bottom of the pot, then pull it up to bring the marshmallows over the top of the cereal. Repeat this move over and over until all the cereal is covered in marshmallows.

When all the cereal is coated, transfer the mixture to a 9×13 pan. Spread the cereal mixture evenly over the pan, then top the cereal with chocolate eggs and pastel sprinkles.

Once the cereal bars are decorated, press the bars down into the pan. You can spray your hands with nonstick cooking spray to keep the cereal from sticking. Or cover the entire pan with a piece of plastic wrap, then press the bars down with your hands to keep your hands from getting messy.
When the cereal mixture is pressed into the pan and is compact, the only thing left to do is wait until the marshmallow mixture cools and sets. Give the mixture around one hour to cool, then you can cut the pan into 15 bars and serve your gluten free Easter treats!
Gluten Free Easter Treat Bars
These Easter cereal bars couldn’t be easier to make! But if you have questions as you’re preparing the recipe, I probably have the answer!

These recipe tips and tricks are a simple way to adjust the recipe to suit your tastes and needs. Try these baking ideas as you’re preparing your own Easter treats:
Replace the Funfetti baking chips with white chocolate. I have eaten the baking chips without any issues, but I understand that there may be cause for concern since the package isn’t labeled gluten free. If you’re worried about possible cross contamination in the baking chips, you can replace them with white chocolate chips instead.
Substitute M&Ms for Cadbury mini eggs. I have never had issues when eating Cadbury mini eggs. But since they’re not labeled as gluten free, you may be worried that you’ll have a reaction after eating them. Luckily, you can make one simple substitution to ensure your bars are gluten free — Easter M&Ms. Instead of using the mini eggs, just top your cereal bars with pastel M&Ms, which are labeled gluten free.
