Monster cookies are one of my favorite gluten free cookies to make. They’re naturally gluten free, which means they don’t have any gluten free flour in them. So they don’t have the strange taste or texture that someone who’s not gluten free might notice. That’s why I love them so much! They’re a cookie I can make for myself and the whole family!
Make Your Gluten Free Gift in a Jar
This gluten free gift in a jar is simple to make. But one that anyone who’s gluten free will love. It gives them a chance to make themselves some delicious gluten free cookies for themselves this holiday season! That’s a great gift in my book.
The first step to making this gluten free gift in a jar is to prepare your pint-size mason jar by cleaning it and drying it thoroughly. Then, use a canning funnel to pour in the gluten free oats. I always use gluten free quick oats when making these cookies, but I think gluten free rolled oats work work, as well. Top your oats with vanilla and baking soda. (Scroll to the bottom of the post for the compete recipe with exact measurements)
Next, you’re going to add your candy layer. For my monster cookies in a jar, I chose Christmas peanut butter M&Ms. My family prefers to have the extra peanut butter flavor in our monster cookies. But I have also made these with plain M&Ms and they tasted wonderful as well!
Next, top your chocolate candy layer with your chocolate chips. They key to getting nice, straight layers is to tap the bottom of the jar on the table after adding each ingredient. For the larger layers, like the candy and chocolate chips, it also helps to rotate the jar in a circle. This allows the candy pieces to move around the jar until everything is even.
After your chocolate chips, it’s time to add the sugars. My recipe calls for both brown and white sugar. But if you look at my picture, you’ll see that the jar looks like it’s full. There’s no room for the white sugar, right? Wrong! That’s is why it’s important to put the brown sugar in before the white sugar — it’s packable! After you’ve poured your brown sugar into the jar, remove your funnel. Then, use a spoon to pack the sugar down into the jar. After it’s firmly packed, you’ll see there’s plenty of room for your white sugar too!
Packing the brown sugar not only makes room for the white sugar on top. It also helps you create a straight line for that layer of ingredients. To add your white sugar, simply replace the funnel and pour it in. Then, carefully remove the funnel from the jar. Your jar will probably be full to the very top at this point.
Now it’s time to finish putting together the gift. Start by adding the decorative paper to the top of your jar to cover the lid. To do this, all you have to do is trace the lid insert on the back of your paper. Then cut it out.

After you have printed your gift tag and cut it out, glue it to your decorative paper. Then cut the paper around the gift tag, leaving a little bit of space to allow the paper’s design to show.
To finish, simply attach the gift tag to the jar. Do this by punching a hole in the corner and stringing a ribbon or twine through the hole. I chose to use twine for mine to add to the rustic farmhouse look of the gift. I love the way it complements the buffalo check paper, don’t you?
And that’s it! See how simple this gluten free gift in a jar is to make? And doesn’t it look so pretty and festive? I know I would love to receive this as a Christmas gift this year!
The instructions on the gift tag will tell your gluten free friend exactly how to make these delicious cookies. Basically, they’ll need to add eggs, butter, and peanut butter to the contents of the jar and mix. To bake the cookies, they will have to scoop the dough into balls and bake for around 12 minutes. When they’re finished, they’ll have some yummy, chewy oatmeal peanut butter cookies perfect for any holiday gathering.

I’m trying to get the tag to print larger the way it looks on your jar. A little computer challenged. Can you tell me how to get it bigger? I tried changing the percent but that didn’t do anything.
Thanks,
Paula
On the print page, select “custom scale” under the Page Size & Handling section in Adobe Acrobat Reader. Change the percentage to 110% or 115% to make the labels slightly larger.
Awesome recipe! Thank You!
Just one correction. This recipe fits into a quart jar not a pint jar.
This is what I kept thinking, too!
