How to Make a Tic Tac Toe Game

Making your own travel tic tac toe game is so simple. But the best part about this easy DIY stocking stuffer is that you can totally customize to fit your own kids and based on the supplies you already have.

If you’re looking for cheap stocking stuffer ideas, DIY stocking stuffers are a great idea! And this simple craft is even better because you can use items you already have at home. To make my tic tac toe game, I used:

  • Mini canvas bags
  • Mini bells
  • Fabric marker

But you don’t have to stick to my supply list! There are a variety of ways you can make your own tic tac toe game using supplies you already have. Here are a few easy ways to customize this simple craft:

  • Make your own bag. If you like to sew, make your own bag instead of purchasing ones at the store.
  • Use different game pieces. I know my kids will love these bells because they just love making noise. But there are a few different items you can use as tic tac toe game pieces, including buttons, rocks, or mini Christmas ornaments.
  • Use a box instead of a bag. If you don’t have bags on hand, a small box would work well as a game board and container for the pieces. You could use an old Altoid tin or jewelry gift box instead of a bag for your DIY stocking stuffers.
Draw tic tac toe game board

To make your own tic tac toe game, you should start by making the tic tac toe game board on your bag. Since I used canvas bags to make my stocking stuffers, I used a fabric marker to draw the tic tac toe grid. Simply draw two vertical lines and two horizontal lines to create a grid on the front of the bag.

Sort the game pieces

After creating the game board, it’s time to sort the game pieces. To play tic tac toe, players need at least five game pieces. I also threw in a couple of extra bells into each bag just in case a piece gets lost as my kids are playing. When picking game pieces for your DIY stocking stuffer, be sure that you have two distinctly different pieces for your kids to play with.

Tie the bag closed

Finish putting your stocking stuffers together by placing the game pieces inside the bag and pulling the handles closed. Then, all you have to do is place it in your kids’ stockings on Christmas Eve!
