DIY Farmhouse Fall Wreath with a Bow

Decorating your front door with a wreath is a great way to welcome your guests to your home. In fact, wreaths are some of my favorite farmhouse DIY projects! A wreath is the perfect way to welcome a new season, which means you’re going to need the perfect fall wreath with a bow to add to your front door this month. This simple farmhouse style wreath is sure to make a statement when you hang it on your door.

How to Make a Fall Wreath

To make an amazing fall wreath, you’ll need a few different supplies to add some fall touches to your front door. Here are some tips for making a great fall wreath.

To make your own fall wreath with a bow, you’ll just need a handful of simple craft supplies, including:

• Grapevine wreath: I love using grapevine wreaths when making a fall wreath. The natural look is the perfect backdrop to the rest of your fall wreath decorations.
• Cute fall sign: Add some fall spirit to your wreath by hanging a cute fall sign on it. I found this adorable truck sign at Dollar Tree for just $1! What a bargain!
• Fall floral picks: You can’t create a fall wreath without some fall florals. For this wreath, I used green pumpkin picks from Wal-Mart.
• Filler floral picks: To add some extra layers to your fall wreath, grab a few filler floral picks. For this wreath, I added a couple of branches of green eucalyptus leaves behind my pumpkins.
• Fall ribbon: To create your fall wreath bow, you’ll need some fall ribbon. I combined orange burlap ribbon with black striped ribbon to create a cute farmhouse bow.

Adding a cute fall sign to your wreath is a great way to make it a little more festive. And when you find an adorable farmhouse sign with a red truck on it at Dollar Tree, you shouldn’t pass it up! I thought this cute truck sign would look adorable on my fall wreath.

While I love working with grapevine wreaths for fall, attaching a sign to the wreath is a little bit difficult. Glue doesn’t stick very well to the grapevine wreath, so you won’t be able to glue the sign to the wreath. Instead, it will need to rest on top of the wreath as you hang it. That means you’ll create your fall sign wreath by decorating the back of the sign instead of the wreath itself.

To do this, simply glue your fall floral picks and filler picks to the back of the sign, arranging them in a way that they lay along the edges of the wreath. Before you start gluing, place the sign on top of the wreath, then play around with the placement of the picks. Once you’re satisfied with where you’ll place them, you can glue them to the back.

Fall Wreath with a Bow

You can’t have a fall wreath without a cute homemade bow! If you’re struggling to create a cute bow for your fall wreaths, you’re in luck! This simple tutorial will show you how to make an easy farmhouse bow in a matter of minutes!

After you get your farmhouse bow made, you can attach it to the front of the sign. Since I wasn’t crazy about the little metal leaf at the top of the truck sign, I just glued my bow right on top of it to cover it up.

When all the glue is dried on your fall sign, you can hang it on your wreath. Start by adding a small loop of string or twine around the top of the wreath and hang that twine loop on the hook on your front door. Using a piece of twine will help place your wreath in the correct spot so your sign lays flat on top of it.

Then, place the loop on the top of the sign over the hook, so that the sign hangs directly on top of the wreath. You can adjust the placement of the sign until you’re satisfied with the way it looks.

How to Hang a Wreath on a Door

Hanging a wreath on a door can be a little bit difficult if you’re not sure where to start. Here are a few simple ways to hang a wreath on a door:

Hammer in a nail. If you’re not concerned about adding a hole to your door, using a nail hammered into the door is one of the best ways to hang your wreath. Hammer the nail at an angle in the spot where you want your wreath to hang, leaving 1/2 to 1 inch of the nail exposed. You can then hang your wreath directly on the nail.

Self-adhesive hooks. To hang your wreath without damaging your door, try self-adhesive hooks (like Command Hooks). Follow the instructions on the package to place your hook on your door, then hang the wreath on the hook.

Over the door wreath hanger. Another damage-free way to hang a wreath on your front door is with an over the door wreath hanger. These handy hangers are placed over the top of the door and allow you to easily hang the wreath on a hook without damaging your door.

Magnetic hooks. If you have a metal door, magnetic hooks are a great option for hanging your wreath. Simply place the magnet on the door and hang your wreath from the attached hook.
