The best part about this kid-friendly craft is that you only need a few things to make your own DIY slime to go along with your adorable valentines! Here’s what you’ll need to put your own slime valentines together:

  • Valentine slime: You can buy premade slime at Wal-Mart and Dollar Tree. But if you want to make your own, keep scrolling to get my easy recipe. The recipe uses glitter glue, white glue, baking soda, saline solution, sequins, and glitter.
  • Printable valentines: After you prepare your slime, download my free printable valentine cards. Keep scrolling to see how to download your cards.
  • Cardstock: It’s a good idea to print the cards on cardstock so they’re strong enough to hold up to little hands playing with them.
  • Mini portion containers: Whether you purchase the slime or make it yourself, it’s a good idea to portion it out before adding the tags. I found these small two-ounce plastic containers in the party section of Wal-Mart.
  • Tape or glue: Attach your valentines to the slime containers using tape or glue to secure them in place.

DIY Valentine Slime

Making your own slime to go along with your printable valentines is a fun way to get creative with your kids. And this valentine slime recipe couldn’t be easier to make! Start by combining your glitter glue with your white glue. If you can’t find glitter glue at your store, you can replace it with additional white glue, then add a few drops of red food coloring to tint the glue pink.

After that, add in your mix-ins. For our slime, we used pink and red sequins and some gold glitter. You can mix things up and add in any mix-ins you want. Or keep the slime plain pink, if you want.

After the mix-ins have been added, stir in the baking soda until it’s well combined. You’ll notice the glue stiffening up at this point, but it’s still not read to be touched because it’s sticky.

When the baking soda has been thoroughly mixed, add in half the saline solution (contact solution). Stir with your spoon until the slime begins to form into a ball. Continue adding solution, 1/2 tablespoon at a time, working the solution into the slime with your hands. When the slime is no longer sticky, you can stop mixing in the saline.

Portion the slime into individual containers. If you fill the containers around 2/3 of the way full, you should have enough to fill 12 two-ounce containers for your valentines.

How to Make Slime Valentines

After you have prepared your slime containers, it’s time to start assembling your valentines. I have two different versions of these valentines to choose from: a PDF and a PNG. If you have a Cricut, you can use the PNG as a print then cut file to make putting these valentines together even easier!

  1. Start by downloading the PNG and uploading it into Design Space.
  2. Select the file type when prompted. Since the image is already flattened, any of the options will work for this project.
  3. Choose print then cut.
  4. Resize the file if needed, depending on the size of the lids you’ll be placing these valentines on.
  5. Hit the Make It button and choose your printer.
  6. Print the valentines on cardstock.
  7. Place the card stock on your cutting mat and set the Cricut to cardstock. Cut the cards, then remove them from the cutting mat and attach them to the containers.

You can also use your printer and scissors to cut out these slime valentines. If you’ll be cutting the cards using this method, download the PDF version of the cards and print them on cardstock. Use your scissors or a 2-inch punch to cut out each of the cards.

After all the cards are cut out and ready to be attached to the slime containers, let your kids sign the back of the cards. Then they can attach each card to the top of the slime containers.

When each of the cards has been signed and is ready to go on the sand container, you can start putting the rest of the craft together. Simply attach the card with a piece of tape or glue to the top of each slime container. That’s it! It’s so easy, even your kids can help make it!

And since these slime valentines are so easy to make, you can customize them however you want! Use these ideas to create personalized valentines for your kids this Valentines Day:

  • Attach the card with twine or ribbon. To add some more decoration to your valentines, why not add a cute bow? After attaching the card to the slime, wrap a piece of twine or ribbon around the container and tie it with a bow.
  • Use washi tape to attach the card to the sand. Washi tape is another great way to attach the valentine to the slime. Use a piece of valentine themed washi tape to attach the cards by placing a piece of tape on the top and bottom of the card to attach it to the container.
