I love heading to Dollar Tree when the season changes. There is always so many great craft and decorating ideas to find. And this year didn’t disappoint! I found a bunch of great Halloween decor to use later in the season. And, of course, I grabbed a few Dollar Tree pumpkins for crafting!
Make Your Own DIY Pumpkin Decor with a Dollar Tree Pumpkin
These dollar store pumpkins are perfect for crafting. They’re made out of styrofoam, which makes them great for transforming into DIY pumpkin decor. This year, I turned my dollar store pumpkin into a cute farmhouse pumpkin to add to the rest of my fall farmhouse decor.
But you’ll need a few other items to turn your dollar store pumpkin into a cute farmhouse pumpkin. To create your own easy sweater pumpkin you’ll need:
- styrofoam pumpkin
- old sweater
- jute twine
- faux leaf
- cinnamon stick
- hot glue gun
The first step to making this no sew sweater pumpkin is to remove the stem and cut a hole in the top of the pumpkin. I used a kitchen knife to cut a small square in the top of the pumpkin. The hole should be big enough for a cinnamon stick to fit into, so don’t make it too big!
Now, grab your old sweater and cut a square from the shirt big enough to cover the entire pumpkin. I simply cut the front off my old sweater and it was the perfect size. Start wrapping the sweater pumpkin by putting a little bit of glue on the pumpkin, then sticking one corner of the sweater into the hole on top of the pumpkin.
Continue adding glue to the pumpkin, then tucking the corners into the hole. You’ll need to adjust the fabric a little each time you place a corner in the hole. Simply fold the extra fabric under the next corner and secure it with a little bit of hot glue.
Set your sweater pumpkin aside and grab your jute twine. Cut three even pieces of twine long enough to wrap around your pumpkin, plus a little bit extra. Tie the twine together in the center to secure the pieces into place.
Now, place your pumpkin on top of the knot in the center of your twine. Grab each piece of twine and wrap it around the side of the pumpkin, sticking the end into the hole. As you stick the end of the twine in the hole, leave the extra length hanging over the top to resemble vines.
After you have finished pulling each piece of twine up around the pumpkin, glue a faux leaf on the top. Then, add some glue around one end of the cinnamon stick. Place the stick into the hole and hold it in place until the glue dries.
And that’s how you make this easy DIY pumpkin decor! Doesn’t it look amazing?
