To make this simple seafood dip recipe, you’ll need just a few ingredients. This cold dip is made using:

  • Crab meat. This easy crab dip can be made with either fresh lump crab meat, canned crab meat, or imitation crab. No matter which type of crab you pick, make sure to finely chop the meat to avoid having lumps in your dip.
  • Small shrimp. You’ll need cooked shrimp to mix into your dip, but you can use fresh or frozen shrimp! If you’re using frozen shrimp, make sure to give it plenty of time to thaw.
  • Cream cheese. Make sure to use full-fat cream cheese in this dip recipe to ensure your dip has the proper consistency. Low fat or fat free cream cheese is much thicker than full-fat cream cheese, which could result in a thick consistency that makes it difficult to dip.
  • Mayonnaise
  • Green onion
  • Sharp cheddar cheese
  • Cajun seasoning. This classic seasoning adds some spice to your dip.
  • Garlic and onion powder
  • Salt and pepper

How to Make Cold Crab and Shrimp Dip

This crab and shrimp dip recipe couldn’t be simpler to make! Since there’s no baking involved in preparing this appetizer, there’s only two steps you have to follow! Stir the dip ingredients together and chill it until you’re ready to serve!

Start by adding all the dip ingredients to a large bowl. Make sure to start with softened cream cheese when making your dip to make it easier to stir all the ingredients together.

To soften the cream cheese for your dip, let it rest at room temperature for around an hour. Or — if you’re in a hurry — place the dip in a microwave safe bowl and heat it for 30 seconds to one minute. Make sure to cover the bowl with a paper towel to keep the cheese from splattering all over your microwave!

Once you have all your ingredients added to the bowl, stir until everything is mixed together. You’ll need to stir quite a bit to get all the lumps out of the cream cheese.

After that, cover your bowl and place the dip in the refrigerator to chill. The dip needs to chill for at least one hour before you serve it. But the longer you keep the dip in the fridge, the more time the flavors will have to meld. You can store your dip in the fridge up to overnight before serving it.
