No matter what type of party you’re throwing — from a Super Bowl Sunday celebration to a backyard picnic– slider appetizers are a great choice. That’s because they’re simple to make and tastes amazing.
In addition to being delicious, you can make these mini muffulettas in under 15 minutes. That means you can easily whip them up for a last-minute party because there’s no cooking involved.
Muffuletta Sliders
On top of being packed with New Orleans flavor, these simple cold sliders couldn’t be easier to make. That’s because you only need five ingredients to put them together!

And with the addition of olive salad, you have a flavorful snack packed with Italian flavor. To make this easy muffuletta slider recipe, you’ll need:
- French bread. A French baguette is perfect for making mini sandwiches but keeping the classic sandwich flavors! I used two small bake at home baguettes from the Wal-Mart bakery section.
- Sliced ham and salami. Traditional Muffulettas are typically made with Capicola, mortadella, or Soppressata, all of which can be difficult to find in a traditional grocery store deli. So, I made my muffulettas using thinly sliced ham and salami.
- Sliced cheese. Provolone is the traditional option when it comes to making New Orleans style muffulettas, but you could also use slices of Swiss or mozzarella cheese.
- Olive salad. The key to getting classic New Orleans flavor is using olive salad on your sandwiches. You can buy premade olive salad in the pickle section of your grocery store, purchase Central Grocery olive salad online, or make your own from scratch.
How to Make Muffuletta Sliders
You’re going to love how quickly this Mardi Gras recipe comes together! Just layer the ingredients and enjoy!

Start by preparing the bread to make your sandwiches. Since this sandwich is stacked high with meat, cheese, and toppings, it’s a good idea to remove some of the center of the bread to make room for all the toppings.
First, bake your baguette according to the instructions on the package if you purchase a bake at home loaf. Then, allow it to cool completely and slice it in half lengthwise. Then, pinch out the center of the bread on both the top and bottom slices.

Next, use a fork to scoop out the olive salad and spread it over the bottom half of the bread. Press the olives into the bread to secure them in place.

Top the olive salad with a layer of thinly sliced ham, folding the slices and needed to fit on the bread.

Next, top the ham slices with the provolone cheese. I cut my sliced cheese in half to fit on the bread.

After that, add a layer of salami over the top of the cheese slices.

Then, place the second slice of bread on top of the sandwich and press down to flatten the sandwich.
Push toothpicks into the sandwich around two inches apart. Then, slice the sandwich into several mini sandwiches and enjoy!
How do I store muffuletta sliders?
These mini sandwiches taste best right after they’re prepared. If you plan to store the sandwiches for longer than an hour or two, it’s best to leave off the olive salad. The salad may begin to make the bread soggy the longer the sandwiches are stored.
You can store the prepared sandwiches without the olive salad for up to three days. Transfer them to an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap and keep them chilled until you’re ready to eat them.

Muffuletta Sliders Substitutions
This delicious appetizer is perfect on its own. But that doesn’t mean you can’t change up the recipe if you want to mix things up! Try these substitution ideas to create a delicious party snack for your next get-together.
- Add more meat. Muffuletta sandwiches can be piled high with meat, so you can definitely add more meat to your sliders! Try adding other cuts of meat, like bologna, pepperoni, or prosciutto.
- Use slider buns. Turn these sandwiches into more traditional sliders by using slider buns or Hawaiian rolls in place of the French baguettes.
- Warm them up. While muffulettas are typically served cold, there’s no reason you can’t bake your own sandwiches. Pop them in a 350 degree oven for 10 to 15 minutes to toast the bread and melt the cheese before serving.
