What I love about this movie night gift is how easy this basket is to make. And you can get just all the supplies you need at the dollar store. Here’s what I purchased at Dollar Tree to make these gifts:
- Popcorn kernels
- Popcorn salt
- Christmas hot chocolate packets
- Santa mug
- Movie theater candy boxes
After purchasing the movie night supplies, you’ll also need a few other supplies to put your gift basket together. To package your dollar store gift basket, you’ll need:
- Printable gift tag: Keep reading to see how to get your free printable Merry Movie Night gift tags to decorate your basket.
- Basket: The basket I used for my gift was from the home section of Dollar Tree. The store also had a variety of Christmas themed gift baskets that would be perfect. You could even grab a big popcorn tub from the dollar store that would make a perfect basket for your Christmas present.
- Jar: If you’re using popcorn kernels in your gift basket, packaging them in a jar is a great way to dress them up. I had a canning jar at home, but you can also find a variety of jars in the kitchen section of the dollar store.
- Seasoning jar: Dress up the popcorn salt in your movie night gift basket with the help of a seasoning shaker jar. You can find them in the kitchen section of your Dollar Tree.
What to Put in a Christmas Movie Night Gift Basket?
Since this easy gift idea uses prepackaged ingredients, it’s so easy to put together! The hardest part is picking out the different elements you’ll put in your gift basket!
You can’t have a movie night without popcorn! Giving popcorn is essential, but deciding what kind of popcorn can be a little more difficult. I poured some popcorn kernels into a jar, then added some movie theater butter salt to a shaker jar. In addition to the popcorn kernels, I also found some cute popcorn bags at my Dollar Store to include in the basket.
In addition to popcorn kernels, you could also use:
- Microwave popcorn bags
- Movie theater butter spray
- Oil for popping
- Additional seasoning salt flavors
- Mini popcorn containers (also from Dollar Tree)
- Other salty snacks, like pretzels, chips, or nuts
Hot chocolate is another great addition to a family movie night gift basket — especially during the holiday season. You can find these cute Christmas themed hot chocolate packets in the seasonal section of Dollar Tree. They’re perfect for a Christmas movie night gift!
But individual hot cocoa packets aren’t the only option when it comes to creating a great gift basket. You could also include:
- Homemade hot chocolate mix in a jar or in individual packets
- Hot chocolate bombs
- A family-size container of hot chocolate
- Hot chocolate Keurig pods
- Instant espresso or coffee pouches
- Cappucino or mocha instant coffee pouches
The final element of the snacks in my gift basket were movie theater boxes of candy. These are perfect for hosting a family Christmas movie night because everyone gets their own serving of candy! And you can find a variety of different candy options at the dollar store to choose from.
On top of these movie theater candy boxes, you can also include other sweets in your gift basket, like:
- Individual packages of cookies
- Fruit snacks
- Christmas candy
- Homemade Christmas cookies
- Mini candy bags
- Candy repackaged into clear plastic treat bags
- Candy canes or peppermints
After filling the basket with some movie night snacks, I added a little bit of Christmas cheer to the gift with the help of a Santa mug. I found this adorable mug at — you guessed it — Dollar Tree!
Christmas Movie Night Basket Gift Tag
Once you have your basket filled with movie night treats and sweets, it’s time to decorate! My favorite way to decorate all my DIY gifts is with a cute and festive gift tag.
To make your own hot chocolate in gift basket, you’ll need to print out my free gift tags. To get your own, simply subscribe to my email list, print them out on cardstock, and tie them to your jar.
AFTER SUBSCRIBING, YOU’LL RECEIVE A WELCOME EMAIL WITH A PASSWORD EXCLUSIVELY FOR MY SUBSCRIBERS. IF YOU DON’T SEE THE MESSAGE SHORTLY AFTER SUBMITTING YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION, BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR JUNK OR SPAM FOLDERS AND ADD MY EMAIL AS TO YOUR SAFE LIST! I’LL KEEP YOU UP-TO-DATE ON NEW FREEBIES AND OTHER POSTS ONCE A WEEK AFTER THAT.
After downloading your printable tags, print them out on white cardstock and cut the tags out around the outer border. You can attach the tag to your gift basket with ribbon by punching a hole in the corner and threading the ribbon through the hole. Or simply place the tag in the front of the gift basket.
Either way, don’t forget to sign your name to the back before adding it to your DIY gift!
Once you have all your gift basket supplies ready to go, all that’s left to do is arrange them in the basket! I suggest starting with some basket filler, like paper shreds. You can find paper shreds in a variety of different colors in the gift wrap section of the dollar store.
After filling your basket, start by adding the larger items, like the popcorn bags and jar of popcorn kernels in the back. Then, place the medium sized stuff, like the candy boxes and seasoning shaker in the center. Finish by putting the cute mug and gift tag right in the front.
Before you attach your gift tag to the front of the jar, make sure to sign your name on the back!
