Hot Chocolate Gift Basket Ideas
To make this easy hot chocolate gift basket, you’ll need just a few simple supplies. But the best part about this easy craft is that you can adjust the items included in your basket to suit your gift-recipients tastes!
What I love about this hot cocoa gift is how easy this basket is to make. And you can get just about all the supplies you need at Dollar Tree. Here’s what I purchased at Dollar Tree to make these gifts:
- Hot chocolate packets with marshmallws (8 packets per box)
- Peppermint stirring spoons (8 spoons per box)
- Chocolate stirring spoons (6 spoons per box)
- Mini marshmallows (12 servings per bag)
- Santa mug
After purchasing the hot chocolate ingredients, you’ll also need a few other supplies to put your gift basket together. To package your hot chocolate gifts, you’ll need:
- Printable gift tag: Keep reading to see how to get your free printable hot chocolate Christmas gift tags to decorate your jarred gift.
- Basket: The basket I used for my gift was from TJ Maxx. It’s a Rae Dunn basket and I loved the black and white buffalo check liner! But if you want to keep this gift on the budget-friendly side, you can find a variety of adorable baskets at the dollar store or Dollar General.
- Ribbon: Attach the tag to your jar with a piece of ribbon. The dollar store has a variety of cute Christmas ribbons to choose from or you can use a plain red ribbon, like I did.
- Clear plastic treat bags. To repackage all your hot chocolate supplies, try using clear plastic treat bags. Sometimes, you can find these bags at Dollar Tree. But if you don’t see any at your store, you can also get them in the party section of Wal-Mart.
What to Put in a Hot Chocolate Gift Basket?
Since this easy gift idea uses prepackaged ingredients, it’s so easy to put together! The hardest part is picking out the different elements you’ll put in your gift basket!
Since the star of this gift basket is the hot chocolate, that’s the first thing you should add to your gift. I used prepackaged Swiss Miss hot cocoa mix with mini marshmallows and some cute Nestle hot chocolate packets with pictures of Santa and a snowman on the front.
But individual hot cocoa packets aren’t the only option when it comes to creating a great gift basket. You could also include:
- Homemade hot chocolate mix in a jar or in individual packets
- Hot chocolate bombs
- A family-size container of hot chocolate
- Hot chocolate Keurig pods
- Instant espresso or coffee pouches
- Cappucino or mocha instant coffee pouches
After deciding on your hot chocolate, it’s time to add some marshmallows! Mini marshmallows are perfect for filling in some space in your gift basket. Start by filling a clear treat bag with mini marshmallows and decorating the top of th bag with a bow.
In addition to mini marshmallows, you can also includ a few other marshmallow-themed items to your gift basket if you want, including:
- Marshmallow creme
- Oversized marshmallows
- Marshmallows in seasonal shapes, like snowmen
- Rainbow marshmallows
Peppermint stirring spoons are a great addition to your Christmas hot chocolate gift basket! They add a pop of color to the gift and allow your loved ones to add some holiday flavor to their cocoa. After removing the peppermint spoons from the package, transfer them to a clear plastic bag to give them a cleaner look.
I love these peppermint spoons, but if you’re looking for some other peppermint ideas to add to your gift basket, you could also include:
- Peppermint sticks
- Candy canes
- Starlight mints
- Andes mints
- Ghirradelli chocolate mints
- Junior Mints
In addition to peppermint spoons, I also included chocolate spoons. These cute mini spoons are a great way to add even more chocolate flavor to your cocoa! Transfer the chocolate spoons from the package to a clear bag to make the gift look more polished.
If you’re looking for other chocolate ideas for your gift basket, try adding some:
- Homemade chocolate spoons (dip plastic spoons in chocolate and allow them to set before packaging)
- Chocolate chips
- Hershey’s chocolate bars or Kisses
- Snow Caps candies
After packaking up all the food items, the only thing left to do is add a cute mug or two to the basket! I used an adorable Santa mug to dress up the gift, but any mug would work for this present, including ceramic mugs and travel mugs.
But that’s not all you can include in your hot chocolate gift basket! Try mixing in some of these other fun items to create a unique gift for everyone on your list:
- Cinnamon sticks
- Holiday sprinkles
- Caramel pieces
- Holiday Peeps
- Pirouette cookies
- Biscotti
Hot Chocolate Basket Gift Tag
Once you have your basket filled with hot chocolate packets and mix-ins, it’s time to decorate! My favorite way to decorate all my DIY gifts is with a cute and festive gift tag.

After downloading your printable tags, print them out on white cardstock and cut the tags out around the outer border. Grab a hole punch to put a hole in the top of the tag. After that, just thread a piece of ribbon or twine through the hole and attach the tag to the top of one of the bags or the basket with a bow.
I used a plain red ribbon to attach the tag to the top of the chocolate spoons, but any type of ribbon would work well for this simple gift.
Before you attach your gift tag to the front of the jar, make sure to sign your name on the back!
