To make your mason jars decorated with burlap, you’ll just need a few simple craft supplies, including:

  • Mason jars: You can use any size or style mason jars for this craft, depending on what you want your Christmas mason jars to look like and how you plan to use them in your seasonal decorations.
  • Burlap ribbon: I found this roll of burlap ribbon in the craft aisle of Dollar Tree. But similar ribbon can be found at most craft stores.
  • Faux leaves: The faux autumn leaves I used to decorate my burlap jar were also from Dollar Tree. They can usually be found in the seasonal section of the store during the fall. Similar leaves can also be found during the fall months at most craft stores.
  • Twine: Decorate the top of your autumn with a piece of jute twine to give it a rustic look.
  • Jar filler: Add fall picks and flowers or a candle to your jars when you’re finished decorating them to add them to the rest of your seasonal decorations.

burlap around mason jars

One of the easiest ways to decorate a plain mason jar is with ribbon. And a roll of burlap ribbon is perfect for adding a rustic touch to your jars in a matter of minutes.

To decorate a jar with burlap ribbon, unroll the ribbon and wrap it around your jar. Cut the ribbon, making sure to leave a small amount of extra ribbon to overlap the end.

Add a line of hot glue to the back of your jar and place one piece of the ribbon on the glue. Hold the burlap in place until the glue dries, then glue the other end over the top of the first end.

Turn your jar around so the front of the jar is facing you. Grab a faux leaf and line it up in the center of the jar. Glue the leaf in place with your hot glue gun. Then, add more leaves to each side of the jar.

Use a pice of twine to finish decorating the fall jar. Wrap the twine around the center of the jar several times, then tie a bow in the front. To hold the twine in place, you can add add small drop of glue under the twine at the back of the jar.

If you’re looking for ways to decorate with your Christmas mason jars, I have plenty of ideas for you:

Add floral picks to create a fall display. This is what I did! I grabbed a few floral picks and added them to the jar to create a fall floral arrangement inside each jar. Then, you can display the jars where ever you need some added fall color.

Decorate with leaves. Instead of using flowers to fill your burlap jars, try using branches of fall leaves. Ore use a combination of flowers and leaves for a unique fall arrangement.

Make several jars to make a fall centerpiece. Use your burlap mason jars to create a Thanksgiving craft to decorate your dining room table. You can fill the jars with holiday florals to create a rustic display for Thanksgiving dinner.

Add candles to create luminaries. Place a candle inside the jar to create a pretty light display for the fall using your mason jars.

Use fillers from nature. Fall is full of fun seasonal fillers you can use to decorate the inside of your jar. Try adding natural elements, like acorns, or scented pieces, like cinnamon sticks, to fill your jars.
