Easy DIY Painted Mason Jar Pumpkin Craft

Decorating with pumpkins is one of my favorite ways to add a fall touch to my existing decor. But why use real pumpkins when you can make mason jar crafts instead? This easy painted mason jar pumpkin craft couldn’t be simpler to make! It’s the best way to add a rustic fall decoration to your home using just a handful of simple craft supplies.

You won’t believe how easy it is to turn a plain glass jar into a pumpkin with a little bit of paint! That makes this craft perfect for beginner crafters because you literally can’t mess it up!

In addition to being simple to make, this adorable craft can also be put together with just a handful of supplies. And since you can change up the items you use, you can put this project together with things you probably already have at home right now.

Mason Jar Pumpkin Craft

My favorite part about this easy fall pumpkin craft is that you can transform it in any way you choose. Keep reading to see what supplies I used, along with some other suggestions to make it simple for you to find the right items for your own project.

To make your own mason jar pumpkin, you’ll need just a few simple craft supplies, including:

• Mason jar with lid. To make the pumpkin craft, you need to make sure to have a lid ring and lid for your mason jar. I used a large quart sized jar for my craft, but you can use any size you want.
• Orange and green paint. When painting mason jars, I have found that acrylic and chalk paint are your best options. I also like to use a foam brush to paint the glass to avoid streaks while you paint.
• Leaf. I got my burlap wreath from Hobby Lobby, but any type of faux leaf will work perfectly for the top of your pumpkin! You can usually find a variety of fake fall leaves at Dollar Tree during the fall months to make this a budget-friendly craft.
• Stem. The stem of my mason jar pumpkin is a small wooden candle stick I found in the wood crafts aisle at Hobby Lobby. You could also use a wine bottle cork, stick, or stem from a faux pumpkin to decorate the top of your jar.
• Twine. To create a vine on the top of the pumpkin, I tied a piece of jute twine to the top. You could also use ribbon or string. Or leave the fine off all together!

How to Make Mason Jar Pumpkins

Now that you have your supplies gathered up for your pumpkin jars, it’s time to start crafting! Follow these simple instructions for making your rustic fall decor for your farmhouse home.

The first step to turning your glass jar into a pumpkin is painting it! I used acrylic paint to cover the outside of the jar in orange with a foam brush. It took around three coats of paints to fully cover the jar.

While you wait for your paint to dry, you can add some green paint to the lid and ring for the top of your jar. I used acrylic paint for this step too, but it was a little more difficult to get the paint to stick. I think green spray paint would probably be a better option for painting the metal lid, but I didn’t have any on hand to try it out!

I suggested giving your paint at least 12 hours to fully dry before moving on to the next step. Since the surfaces of the glass and metal are slick, the paint can easily be chipped if it isn’t completely dry.

Once you’re sure your paint is dry, place the lidn and ring on top of your jar. Then, use your hot glue gun to attach the leaf to the center of the jar.

After that, glue your stem to the top of the leaf. Put a little bit of pressure on the top of the stem while the glue dries to help secure it in place.

To finish creating your mason jar pumpkin, tie a piece of twine around the bottom of the stem. Cut the ends of the twine long enough to let them drape over the sides of the jar to resemble vines.

• Add an antiqued look. To give your jars a more vintage look, grab your sandpaper. Rough up the raised areas of your pumpkin jars, like the label and lines, to instantly make the jar look aged.
