Easy Homemade Gluten Free Chex Mix

Sharing is caring!

Chex mix has been a holiday tradition in my family for many years. The smell of Chex mix baking in the oven always reminds me of Christmas. When I switched to gluten free cooking a few years ago, I had to make a few alterations to the recipe, but luckily, most of the ingredients in the mix are already gluten free! I’m so happy I didn’t have to give up one of my favorite holiday snacks, and I can make my own gluten free Chex mix.

This post was updated on October 16, 2019, to include new gluten free ingredients and new photos!

Gluten free Chex mix is so easy to make. To start, you have to make the seasoning sauce, which is a yummy mix of butter, hot sauce, fresh garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Lawry’s season.

Make sure to chop up your garlic into tiny pieces, then throw all of the ingredients in a saucepan and stir until the butter is melted and all the ingredients are incorporated.

Next, mix your dry ingredients. In my gluten free Chex mix, I use rice Chex, corn Chex, potato sticks, gluten free pretzels, peanuts, Cheerios, Lance gluten free cheese crackers, and baked Cheetos. If you don’t need to go gluten free, throw in some Cheez-its, Goldfish, Bugles, and bagel crackers too! Adding all of these ingredients fills up a large bowl pretty quickly!

Add gluten free chex mix ingredients to a large bowl

To make it easier to stir the sauce into the mix, I usually separate the ingredients into two or three large bowls. Then, drizzle the sauce over the mix in each bowl and stir to evenly coat all of the ingredients.

Finally, dump your coated gluten free Chex mix ingredients onto a sheet pan. Make sure that the ingredients are in an even layer with each ingredient touching the pan. You’ll need to bake your mix in a couple of different rounds to get everything cooked evenly.

Now for the hard part — bake the mix for at least an hour and a half in a 250 degree oven. You’ll have to smell it cooking the whole time, but don’t eat any! Trust me — you’ll want to wait until it’s done!
