This cute rainbow craft for kids is perfect for kids of any age. My oldest son put the necklace together all on his own, while my youngest needed a little assistance. But they both had a blast eating their fruit cereal and marshmallow rainbows when they were finished!
Make Your Rainbow Craft for Kids

To make this adorable rainbow craft for kids, you’ll need a bowl of fruit cereal, a few full-sized marshmallows, string, and a plastic yarn needle. When choosing your string, be sure to pick one that is smooth. Fluffy yarn won’t work for this rainbow craft for kids because the fibers from the yarn will get stuck to the marshmallow.
In addition to being a fun rainbow craft, this cute rainbow necklace is also perfect for preschool learning. Your little one will have the chance to sort colors, count the cereal pieces, create a rainbow pattern with the cereal, and practice their fine motor skills by threading each piece of cereal onto the string.

Start by asking your child to sort the cereal into different piles of each color. Then, organize the cereal into a rainbow pattern — red, orange, yellow, green, indigo, and violet. At each end of the rainbow patter will go a marshmallow cloud.

Thread the string onto the plastic needle and pull the string through the center of the marshmallow. Push the marshmallow down the sting and into the center of the string where you would like one end of the cereal rainbow to go.

Ask your child to thread four of each color of the cereal onto the string. The plastic needle is perfectly safe for young children to use because it’s not sharp at all. But it’s perfect for helping your child easily thread the cereal onto the string to create their rainbow craft for kids.

Have them keep threading until all the colors have been added to their rainbow craft for kids. And don’t forget to make sure you leave out extra cereal so your kids can snack while they work!

Finish you rainbow craft for kids by threading another marshmallow onto the end of the necklace. If your child is young, I would suggest placing the marshmallow onto the string yourself. The sting can get sticky from the inside of the marshmallow, which may turn into a mess in little hands!
Eat the Rainbow Craft for Kids

To turn this cute rainbow craft for kids into a necklace, simply tie the ends of the string together. It’s probably a good idea to wipe the string with a wet paper towel to remove some of the stickiness from the marshmallow, too. After you’ve create the necklace, the only step to complete is eat their fun rainbow craft for kids!

I love this simple rainbow craft for kids because it’s perfect for so many occasions. Whether you use it to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day or just to pass the time on a rainy Spring afternoon, I guarantee this cute rainbow craft will be a hit with your kids!
