Read Across America Day takes place every year on March 2 to celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. It’s a fun day that encourages reading and celebrates one of my favorite children’s authors — Dr. Seuss.
The Cat in the Hat has been a favorite book in our house for a long time. So this year, we’re celebrating Read Across America Day with a fun Cat in the Hat craft. This adorable craft uses simple supplies and is so easy, a child of any age can make it.
How to Make This Cat in the Hat Craft

This cute Cat in the Hat craft starts with a craft stick base. To make the base, ask your child to construct a hat by stacking 12 small craft sticks on top of one large craft stick.

Then, glue two large craft sticks on top of their hat base to support the hat. You could also add a stick coming out of the bottom so your kids can hold the hat above their head when it’s finished.

Now it’s time to decorate your Cat in the Hat craft! Start by gluing a row of white craft pom poms all along the large craft stick on the bottom of the hat.

Next comes a row of red craft pom poms. There are so many ways to incorporate a little learning in this cute Cat in the Hat craft. The stripes help with pattern recognition for younger kids. And you can help your child learn how to sort by asking them to sort the pom poms into piles of red and white before you start putting the Cat in the Hat craft together.

Gluing the pom poms onto the hat is also great for helping your younger children work on their fine motor skills. Picking up those little pom poms is great for improving the pincer grasp!
See how simple is cute craft is to make? Your kids will have a blast putting this fun Cat in the Hat craft together on Read Across America Day. It’s a great way to have fun while reading a silly Dr. Seuss book together!
