It hasn’t really felt like winter around here, but since it’s December, it’s the perfect time for making snow crafts. And who doesn’t love making a snowman? Since there’s no snow on the horizon for us, we decided to make our own snowman craft inside. In addition to being a cute craft to make on a snow day, this adorable snowman craft for preschoolers is also so much fun to play with. The squishy “snow” inside the bag will keep your little ones entertained for hours.
So, whether you’re hoping to keep your kids entertained on a snow day or just want to celebrate the winter weather with a fun craft, you and your kids are going to love making this snowman in a bag.
Easy Preschool Snowman Craft
The thing I love most about this craft is how easy it is to make. And your kids are going to love playing with it just as much as they do making it.
To make this simple snowman craft for preschoolers, you’ll need:
- Gallon size zip-top bag
- Orange construction paper
- Googly eyes
- Glitter faux snow
- White foam shaving cream
Start by creating a face on your snowman craft. Add two googly eyes to the top of the bag. Then, cut out a large triangle nose from the piece of orange construction paper and glue it to the bag.
Finish creating the face by gluing red buttons in a line to form a mouth. I used buttons for the mouth because I had a bunch of them laying around, but there are several other fun ways to form a mouth for your snowman, including:
- Construction paper
- Puff paint
- Felt
- Pipe cleaner
After creating the face, add a handful of glitter faux snow into the bag. This fun addition will give your snowman a pretty shine as your play with the snowman craft after it’s finished.
Finally, fill the bag with white foam shaving cream. Add the shaving cream to the bag slowly to avoid overfilling the bag. The shaving cream expands as it sprays, so it can quickly get messy if you’re not careful!
To play with the snowman, let your kids squish the bag and move the snow around inside to find the glittery pieces of faux snow. This fun snowman craft for preschoolers makes a great sensory activity.
Questions About Making This Snowman Craft
This cute snowman craft is so easy to make! Keep reading if you have questions about this simple craft:
Can I use gel shaving cream?
Gel shaving cream probably wouldn’t be the best type of shaving cream for this craft. While it does get white and fluffy, gel shaving cream doesn’t stay fluffy for very long. But white foam shaving cream keeps its shape as your kids play with it.
Do I have to add faux snow?
No! If you don’t have any snow on hand, just skip that step. Your kids will still have a blast playing with this snowman craft without the fake snow.
Can older kids make this craft?
This craft is so simple, I mentioned several times that it’s great for preschoolers. But it also makes a great snow day craft for kids of any age! In fact, older kids could make this easy craft all on their own without parental guidance. Just keep an eye on them when they’re adding the shaving cream to avoid a big mess!
