Popsicle Stick Pumpkin Craft

To make your own popsicle stick pumpkin, you’ll need a few simple craft supplies. Put together this fall craft at home with these supplies:

• Orange and green craft sticks. You can purchase colored craft sticks at Dollar Tree or paint plain craft sticks orange and green before you put the craft together.
• Orange paper. To give this pumpkin craft a cute look, we used orange polka dot scrap paper. I found this pattern at Hobby Lobby. If you don’t have any orange scrapbook paper at home, try using plain orange construction paper instead.
• Green leaf. Use a green faux leaf to decorate the top of your pumpkin. I found the leaf on our pumpkin in a package of leaves from Dollar Tree.
• Scissors and glue. To put the craft together, you’ll need a pair of sharp scissors capable of cutting the popsicle sticks and some glue to hold all the pieces together.

How to Make a Pumpkin With Popsicle Sticks

Before you can start building your pumpkin out of popsicle sticks, you need to take a minute to prepare your sticks for the craft. Start by cutting three popsicle sticks in half using a sharp pair of scissors.

If you’re making this craft with younger kids, you might not want them doing this step of the craft on their own. Instead, you have two options:

1. Cut the sticks yourself. Before your kids are ready to start crafting, prepare the popsicle sticks for them by pre-cutting the sticks. You’ll need three popsicle sticks for each pumpkin, so just make sure to cut enough sticks for each child making the craft.
2. Use full-sized popsicle sticks. Your kids can also make bigger pumpkins by using full-sized sticks. Instead of cutting the sticks in half to make a small pumpkin, skip this step and let them build their pumpkin with full-sized sticks.

When your craft sticks are ready to go, you can start building your pumpkin. First, place one piece of the popsicle stick flat. Then, put another stick on each end, placing them so they are angled slightly outward. Glue the sticks in place and hold them there until the glue dries.

To make the bottom of your pumpkin, repeat the above process. But this time, make the sticks point upward instead of downward.

When the glue is dry on the bottom section of your pumpkin, you can attach the top and bottom by gluing the sticks together in the center.

Give your popsicle sticks plenty of time to dry, then grab a pencil or pen. Place the pumpkin on top of your paper and trace around the outside using your pencil. Grab some scissors and cut out the shape you just traced and glue it to the back of the pumpkin.

After that, it’s time to make the stem and leaves of your popsicle stick pumpkin. First, glue the green popsicle stick to the back of the pumpkin, leaving around one inch of the stick poking out from the top. Next, cut your faux leaf into three small pieces.

Glue the leaves to the top of the pumpkin in front of the popsicle stick stem to finish your fall pumpkin craft!

Making your own pumpkin craft using popsicle sticks at home is so simple! What’s so much fun about this cute craft is that you can easily make it your own! Consider these easy tips to create an amazing popsicle stick pumpkin at home with your kids this autumn.

Paint your popsicle sticks. If you take a look in the craft aisle at Dollar Tree, you’ll probably find a package of pre-colored popsicle sticks. But if you don’t have any on hand, you can easily make your own orange popsicle sticks with paint. Just paint the sticks and allow them to dry completely. Then, put the craft together as directed.

Make it a magnet. Are you looking for an easy way to display your popsicle stick pumpkin when your kids are finished making it? Add a magnet to the back! Simply glue a magnet to the back of the pumpkin and hang it on your fridge.

Make a popsicle stick jack o lantern. This pumpkin craft could easily be turned into a Halloween project. After you create your pumpkin, use a black marker to draw a jack o lantern face on the front. If you plan to add this step to your craft, try using plain orange construction paper in place of scrapbook paper.
