To make this easy witches hat treats recipe, you’ll need:

  • Pizzelle cookies. To give your cookies a fun and frilly look, I used pizzelle cookies. These thin, flowery cookies are perfect for the bottom of a witch hat! I purchased my cookies at Aldi, but you can find these cookies in most grocery stores.
  • Wilton black color mist. Give your pizzelle cookies a witchy look with the help of Wilton black color mist. This edible spray is a quick and easy way to color your cookies without the need for messy icing.
  • Orange icing. Did you know that Pillsbury makes pre-colored icing? To decorate my witch hat sugar cones, I used Pillsbury Funfetti Orange All-Star frosting. You can also use orange food coloring to dye plain white icing.
  • Oreo sugar cones. Top your cone witch hat with Oreo sugar cones. Joy makes these delicious ice cream cones. And the dark color is perfect for these treats! If you can’t find these cones at your store, you can also use the Wilton black color mist to color plain sugar cones black for these treats.
  • Reese’s Pieces. Add a candy surprise to the inside of your cookies by using small candy, like Reese’s Pieces or M&Ms, to fill your cones before you build these no-bake cookie treats.

How to Make Ice Cream Cone Witch Hats

These layered treats are quick and easy to make because there’s no baking involved! Just follow these four simple steps to prepare this simple no-bake witch treat in a matter of minutes.

black wilton color mist

Start by using your Wilton color mist to spray the tops of all your pizzelle cookies. You can spray both sides of the cookies if you want, but I found that color the tops of each cookie was enough to give the witchy effect.

This spray icing works just like spray paint. That means it’s a good idea to cover your table or countertop and make sure you’re working in a place that’s clear of extra stuff. The spray will travel through the air and could get on the things surrounding your workspace. The good news is that you can easily clean up any excess spray with a wet paper towel.

After all your cookies are coated, give the food coloring plenty of time to dry. My cookies were dry after 30 minutes.

While you’re waiting for your spray to dry, you can fill each of your sugar cones with candy. Small pieces of candy are perfect for these witch hat treats! I used Reese’s Pieces to fill each of the ice cream cones, but you could also try adding these candies to the inside of your witch hats:

  • M&Ms
  • Candy corn
  • Gummy worms
  • Skittles
  • Starburst
  • Fruit snacks
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles

Use traditional sugar cones. I found these Oreo sugar cones at Aldi, but I’m sure they’re available at other grocery stores. If you aren’t able to find this flavor of ice cream cones, there’s an easy fix. Simply spray your brown sugar cones with Wilton color mist to turn them black.

Use different colors of icing. The combination of orange and black are classic for Halloween. But you could change the color of your icing to match your party’s theme. You could also use purple or green icing to decorate your witch cones because those colors are both popular choices for witches.

Try different cookies. I love the frilly look of pizzelle cookies. And they’re the perfect size for topping your sugar cones. But if you can’t find these cookies, you could also use Keeber fudge stripe cookies on your cones to create witch hats. Keep in mind that these cookies are much smaller, so the brim of your witch hats won’t be as big.
