What I love about this popcorn in a jar gift is how easy this gift is to make. To put together this easy Christmas gift, you’ll need:

  • Popcorn kernels
  • Seasoning salt
  • Pint jar
  • Half pint jar
  • Printable gift tag
  • Tape or hot glue gun
  • Ribbon

How to Package Popcorn in a Jar

You won’t believe how easy this gift is to put together! All you have to do is fill your jars, then decorate your mason jar gift!

The base of your popcorn gift will be the pint-sized jar filled with popcorn kernels. You can also use a quart-size jar. But I would suggest that you use a wide-mouth jar for this gift if you plan on stacking the jars, like I did.

Since the bottom of the half-pint jar is roughly the same size as the top of a traditional mason jar, the jar may not sit correctly on top of the jar, making it difficult to attach the jar to the lid.

After filling your pint-sized jar with the popcorn kernels, place the lid on top of the jar. Next, fill the smaller, half-pint jar with seasoning salt. I used movie theater butter salt in this jar.

Place the lid on top of the jar after it’s filled with salt.

Attach the half-pint jar to the top of the pint jar by gluing or taping the jar in place. I used tape to secure the jar. But if you want to ensure the smaller jar doesn’t fall off the top, you can also use your hot glue gun to attach the two jars together. Since the jar will be attached to the metal insert, it won’t be a problem when your loved one removes the lid from the top of the popcorn jar to use the kernels.

Popcorn in a Jar Gift Tag

Once you have your jars filled with popcorn and seasoning salt, it’s time to decorate! My favorite way to decorate my mason jar gifts is with a fun gift tag.

After downloading your printable tags, print them out on cardstock and cut the tags out around the outer border. Use a hole punch to punch a hole in the corner of the tag. After that, just thread a piece of ribbon or twine through the hole and attach the tag to the top of your jar with a bow.

I used black and red plaid ribbon to match the buffalo check background of the tag. Since I wrapped the ribbon around the center of the smaller jar, I added a piece of tape to the back to hold it in place.

Before you attach your gift tag to the front of the jar, make sure to sign your name on the back!

Use different seasoning salt flavors. I chose a classic movie theater butter salt for my gift, but there are a variety of different seasoning salt flavors to choose from. You could add premade seasoning salt, like white cheddar or nacho cheese. Or make your own homemade seasoning, like ranch, to add to the smaller jar.

Include some oil for popping. Instead of filling your smaller jar with seasoning salt, you could also include some oil in the jar. The oil can be used to pop the popcorn on the stovetop.

Attach the tag to microwave popcorn. While I love this idea for a gift in a jar, there’s no reason you can’t use this gift tag for microwave popcorn instead. Just print out the gift tag and attach it to a package of popcorn with a ribbon for a quick and easy last minute gift.
