To make your own New Year’s Eve treats at home, you’ll need just a few simple ingredients:

  • Butter
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Rice Krispies (or any crispy rice cereal)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Gold and silver sprinkles (I used these Wilton sprinkles for my treats)

How to Make New Year’s Eve Treats

Making your own no bake treats for New Year’s Eve couldn’t be easier! Just follow these quick instructions for preparing the Rice Krispies treats squares and decorating them for your party.

Start by placing your butter in a large stock pot and cooking it over medium low heat. When the butter is melted, add the mini marshallows to the pot and stir to mix. Continue mixing the ingredients as the marshmallows melt, making sure they don’t stick to the bottom or sides of the pan and burn.

When the marshmallows are fully melted, add the Rice Krispies to the pot and remove then pan from heat. Carefully mix the cereal into the marshmallows until the cereal is fully coated. The best method for mising is pulling the spoon up from the bottom and over the top of the cereal.

When the cereal is coated in melted marshmallows, transfer it to a greased 9×13 baking dish. After that, grease your hands with nonstick cooking spray and press the mixture into the pan until it’s a solid bar. Then allow the bars to cool completely at room temperature. This usually takes at least one hour.

When the rice cereal mixture is cool, it’s time to start decorating with chocolate and sprinkles! Start by cutting your treats into small squares. Mine were around 2 inches wide. I have found the best method for doing this is to remove the bars from the pan, then cut them into sections.

Once the bars are cut, melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second intervals, stirring betwee each intervals. When the chocolate is fully melted, transfer it to a piping bag. Cut the tip of the bag and drizzle the chocolate over the top of each treat, then immatediately top with gold and silver sprinkles while the chocolate is still soft.

Allow the chocolate to cool and harden before serving your party treats.

As you’re preparing your own NYE party treats, try these adjustments and additions to create a delicious sweet snack for everyone at your party:

  • Add some paper straws. Turn your holiday treats into cute rice krispies pops with the help of a paper straw or popsicle stick. Cut a paper straw in half, then carefully slide it into the bottom of each treat before serving.
  • Cut them into larger squares. Making your treats into small squares is perfect for feeding a crowd at a party. But if you want your guests to have a larger snack, you can cut the bars into larger squares. Keep in mind that larger pieces won’t work as well on sticks because the weight of the treats may make them fall off the stick as you try to eat them.
  • Make them gluten free. You can easily turn these party treats into a gluten free dessert by using gluten free crispy rice cereal. While Kellogg’s Rice Krispies are not gluten free, there are a few generic rice cereal options to choose from including Great Value (Wal-Mart), Kroger, and Millville (Aldi).
  • Use different decorations. What could be better than melted chocolate and sprinkles for decorating your NYE snacks? If you want to change things up, try adding your sprinkles to the top of the treats while they’re still warm. Or decorated with melted chocolate and leave the sprinkles off all together.
