To make these easy gluten free peanut butter bars, you’ll need:

  • Gluten free baking flour: When it comes to learning how to make gluten free cookies, I have found that not any flour will do. I’ve tried several different brands of gluten free flours and I have found the best one is Bob’s Red Mill 1-to-1 Baking Flour by far!
  • Baking powder
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Butter
  • Peanut butter
  • Brown sugar
  • Sugar
  • Egg
  • Vanilla
  • Hershey’s Kisses

After looking at that list of ingredients, you may have a couple questions in mind, like:

  • Are Hershey’s Kisses gluten free? The answer is yes! Plain milk chocolate Hershey’s Kisses are gluten free. But there are other varieties of the chocolate candies that do contain gluten, so make sure to to check your package before you add them to your cookie bars.

How to Make Peanut Butter Cookie Bars

Making these gluten free peanut butter blossom bars is a simple way to whip up a classic treat. And since you can make the dough and press it right into the pan without rolling each cookie, you can cut your prep time in half with this easy recipe!

gluten free flour for cookie bars

To get started making these peanut butter bars, first mix the dry ingredients together. Whisk your flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a medium bowl. Once all the dry ingredients are well combined, set this bowl aside.

After that, grab another bowl and add your softened butter, peanut butter, and brown sugar. Beat those ingredients until they’re smooth and creamy, making sure the butters and sugar are fully incorporated.

When your butter and peanut butter are well combined, add the egg and vanilla extract. Beat the ingredients into the butter mixture until smooth and creamy.

Grab the bowl with the flour mixture and pour the dry ingredients into the bowl with the butter mixture. Use your mixer to mix the ingredients as well as you can. As the gluten free flour gets mixed into the peanut butter, the cookie dough may become too thick to mix with a hand mixer. If that happens, just grab a wooden spoon and stir until all the flour is incorporated.

Press the dough into an 8×8 baing dish, making sure to get the dough as even as possible so your cookie bars bake evenly. Then, sprinkle the white sugar over the top of the cookie dough.

Bake your cookie bars in your preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes. You’ll know the cookie bars are ready to come out when the edges are golden brown. While the cookie bars are baking, you can take the time to unwrap your Hershey’s Kisses. You’ll need 16 Kisses for this recipe.

Immediately after taking the cookie bars out of the oven, press the Hershey’s Kisses into the bars, spacing them evenly so you can cut the dough into bars after it cools.

Allow the cookie bars to cool completely, then cut the pan into 16 bars and serve.

These peanut butter blossom bars couldn’t be easier to make! But if you have questions as you’re baking, I probably have the answer!

Can I Make Thinner Bars?

This recipe makes 16 thick cookie bars. If you prefer thinner bars, you can use a larger pan. A 9×9 pan would result in slightly thinner bars, while a 9×13 pan will make very thin bars. If you use a larger pan, you may need to adjust the baking time. The thinner the bars, the shorter the baking time will be.

Can I Use Different Hershey’s Kisses Flavors?

You can add any flavor Hershey’s Kisses on top of the bars. But before you choose a flavor, make sure to check the back of the package to ensure they’re gluten free. Some Kisses flavors are made with gluten-containing ingredients.

Can I mix add-ins to the cookie dough?

Of course! You can incorporate a variety of different mix-ins to add more flavor to your cookie bars. I would suggest using no more than one cup of add-ins. Simply mix them into the batter before you press your cookie dough into the pan.

You could also try mixing in:

  • Pretzel pieces
  • Toffee bits
  • Dark chocolate chips
  • Peanut butter chips
  • Mini peanut butter cups
  • Chopped up peanut butter cups
  • Peanuts or other chopped nuts
