I was so happy to find out that Oreo was releasing a gluten free version of thier popular sandwich cookies. And they taste amazing! Even my kids can’t tell the difference between the gluten free cookies and traditional Oreos.
And since the cookies taste great, I knew I had to get to work coming up with different gluten free Oreo recipes. After making some gluten free Oreo dump cake, I decided to try my hand at brownies. And this recipe did not disappoint!
How to Make Gluten Free Oreo Brownies
This simple recipe combines gluten free brownies and gluten free Oreos to create a decadent sweet treat. That means it’s perfece for an afternoon snack or even a party.

But the best part about this simple recipe is how easy it is to make. You can make your own brownie batter or use your favorite gluten free brownie mix to prepare it. To make this gluten free Oreo brownies recipe, you’ll need:
- Gluten free Oreos. The key to making this simple dessert is using gluten free Oreos! But they can be to find where I am because the never stay in stock for long. If you aren’t able to find Oreos in your store, try using Glutino chocolate sandwich cookies instead.
- Gluten free brownie batter. You have two options for making this sweet treat — making your brownie batter from scratch or using boxed gluten free brownie mix. Keep reading to see my favorite mixes and my favorite gluten free brownie recipe.
- White icing. Decorate the top of your brownies with some white icing. I used Betty Crocker whipped icing, which is gluten free. But always make sure to check the package to ensure that your icing brand isn’t made with gluten-containing ingredients.
What is the best gluten free brownie mix?
I typically use the gluten free brownie mix from Aldi when making brownies. But if you don’t have an Aldi near you, there are a few other brands that offer a gluten free brownie mix that you could try:
- Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Brownie Mix
- Krusteaz Gluten Free Brownie Mix
- King Arthur Brownie Mix
- Betty Crocker Gluten Free Brownie Mix
Gluten Free Oreo Brownies
Making this simple recipe couldn’t be easier. Just layer the ingredients in the pan, pop it in the oven, bake it, and let it cool slightly before enjoying!

The first step to preparing these brownies is to make the brownie mix. If you’re using a boxed mix, just follow the instructions on the box for preparing the brownie batter.
To make my gluten free brownie recipe, stir together the melted butter and sugar until the sugar is dissolved, then add the cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, vanilla, and espresso powder.
After that, use your hand mixer to beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each addition. When all the eggs have been added, stir in the flour until the batter is just combined.
Then, add the chocolate chips to the batter and stir until they’re mixed in.

After that, grab your baking dish and add a layer of gluten free Oreos along the bottom. Just spread the Oreos across the pan, filling as much of the space as you can with the cookies.

Top the Oreos with the brownie batter, spreading it out so that it’s even across the pan. Lightly tap the bottom of the pan on the counter to help the batter sink to the bottom of the pan and cover the Oreos.
Bake the brownies for 45 to 55 minutes, until the edges are cooked but the center of the brownies is still slightly soft. Allow the pan to cool completely on a wire cooling rack.

When the brownies are completely cool, spread the white icing over the top in an even layer. I suggest fluffing up the icing with a whisk before adding it to the brownies to make it a little easier to spread.

Once your icing is spread over the top of the brownies, sprinkle some crushed gluten free Oreos over the top. Then, you can slice the brownies into bars and serve them.

These recipe adjustments and additions will help you create a delicious dessert for any celebration:
- Top with ice cream and chocolate syrup. If you want to add even more sweetness to your dessert, serve it with a scoop of ice cream! After plating the brownie, top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, then drizzle some chocolate syrup over the top.
- Mix in some crushed Oreos. With Oreos on the bottom of the pan and crushed cookies on top, there is plenty of Oreo flavor in these brownies. But you can add even more cookies to the dessert by mixing some crushed Oreos into the batter with the chocolate chips.
- Skip the gluten free ingredients. If you don’t need the brownies to be gluten free, you can easily replace the gluten free Oreos with traditional Oreos and gluten free brownie mix with regular chocolate cake mix.

I made these brownies, but I’m confused about the recipe. Do you add everything on the brownie mix and then your recipe? I’m using Bob’s and that would be a total of 8 eggs. I just added the 5 eggs from your recipe. The recipe seemed so thick. I think I had chocolate everywhere, lol. Also, I used a 9×9 pan instead of an 8×8 and it doesn’t seem big enough.
I haven’t tried them yet. I’ll let you know how they turn out.

I’m sorry for the confusion, Beverly! This recipe can be made either with a boxed brownie mix or from scratch. It looks like I forgot to include the instructions for making the brownies from scratch in the recipe at the bottom of the post, so I’ve updated that section to include more detailed instructions!
