Finding quick and easy food for all your summer get-togethers is essential — especially when you’re gluten free. Since going gluten free, my go-to course to bring to parties is dessert because there aren’t many gf dessert options available at potlucks.
That means I’m always searching for quick and easy desserts to make that everyone will love to eat — whether they’re gluten free or not. Dump cakes are a great choice because they use minimal ingredients and are super simple to put together.
How to Make Oreo Dump Cake

Oreo dump cake is a unique version of dump cake because it doesn’t use pie filling as the base. Instead, you’re going to create a gooey caramel sauce to top your gluten free Oreos! To make this Oreo dump cake, you’ll need:
- Gluten free Oreos. Did you know you can buy gluten free Oreos now? And they taste great! But they’re also hard to find where I am. If you aren’t able to find Oreos in your store, try using Glutino chocolate sandwich cookies instead.
- Sweetened condensed milk. To create the caramel sauce for your dump cake, you’ll use sweetened condensed milk. Make sure you purchase condensed milk and not evaporated milk to make this recipe!
- Whipped topping. You’ll also need some Cool Whip to create a creamy center for your Oreo cake. Any brand of whipped topping will work for this recipe, just make sure that it’s thawed to make it easier to spread.
- Gluten free chocolate cake mix. The key ingredient to dump cake is cake mix. For this recipe, you’ll need chocolate cake mix.
- Butter. The last step to making this dump cake is butter. The butter will help keep the cake mix from drying out as you bake, so don’t skip this step!
What is the best gluten free chocolate cake mix?
I used Betty Crocker Gluten Free Devil’s Food cake mix for this recipe and it was great. There are a few other brands that offer a gluten free chocolate cake mix that you could try:
- Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix
- Krusteaz Gluten Free Chocolate Cake Mix
- King Arthur Chocolate Cake Mix

Making this simple recipe couldn’t be easier. Just layer the ingredients in the cake pan, pop it in the oven, bake it, and let it cool slightly before enjoying!

Start by creating a layer of gluten free Oreos along the bottom of your baking dish. Just spread the Oreos across the pan, filling as much of the space as you can with the cookies.

After that, pour the sweetened condensed milk over the top of the Oreo cookies until they’re all completely coated.

Over the condensed milk, you’ll spread a layer of whipped topping. Simply plop the whipped topping into the pan and spread it in an even layer over the top of the cookies.

Finish by sprinkling the gluten free chocolate cake mix over the the whipped topping. Since it will be difficult to spread the cake mix without it sticking to the topping, I suggest using a spoon to spread the mix. Just scoop some cake mix out of the bag and sprinkle it over the top of the cake until all the mix has been used.

Place pan in the oven to bake until the cake mix is cooked through and the caramel sauce is bubbling. Remove the pan from the oven and top with some crushed Oreos, then allow the cake to cool until it’s slightly warm before slicing and serving.
Oreo Dump Cake Ideas
This simple recipe is perfect for any celebration! And since it’s so easy, you can quickly adapt the recipe to suit your needs. Try these ideas the next time you make your own gluten free Oreo dump cake recipe.

These recipe adjustments and additions will help you create a delicious dessert for any celebration:
- Top with ice cream and chocolate syrup. My favorite way to serve this dessert is topped with ice cream and chocolate syrup. After plating the cake, top it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, then drizzle some chocolate syrup over the top.
- Decorate with candy pieces. Add to the sweetness of the dessert by topping it with some candy, too. M&Ms, Reese’s Pieces or peanut butter cups, or chopped chocolate candy like Snickers would taste amazing with this simple cake.
- Skip the gluten free ingredients. If you don’t need the cake to be gluten free, you can easily replace the gluten free Oreos with traditional Oreos and gluten free cake mix with regular chocolate cake mix.

Hi!
The Gluten Free Oreo Dump Cake recipe shows to use Gluten free Oreos but does not say to use a gluten free chocolate cake mix. I just thought I would let you know that needs to be changed on the online recipe. Thanks!
Thanks for that catch, Christine! I updated the recipe!!
Hi Emily, this recipe looks delicious! Just wondering–is the butter supposed to be salted or unsalted?
It tastes amazing, Jermaine! I used unsalted butter when I made it. I think salted would probably be fine, too. It might even balance out the sweetness.
How do you store the cake if you make it ahead of time?
You can cover the pan and keep it at room temperature until you’re ready to serve it.
Hi,
If I make it the day before my event, can it be stored outside the fridge overnight?
It should be fine outside the fridge overnight as long as you bake it first. I would reheat it before serving, though, because it tastes way better when it’s warm!
Thank you for the recipe, it’s in the oven now. I would love to have looked at more of your recipes, but the pop-ups make it really difficult.
