Gluten Free Snowball Cookies
To make this easy chocolate chip snowball cookies, you’ll need just a few simple ingredients — the most important being sweetened condensed milk. The milk in this recipe is essential in creating a soft, delicious cookie.

What I love about these cookies is that you don’t need any special ingredients or homemade flour blends to make them! All you need is gluten free flour. When it comes to learning how to make gluten free cookies, I have found that not any flour will do. I’ve tried several different brands of gluten free flours and I have found the best one is Bob’s Red Mill 1-to-1 Baking Flour by far!

How to Make Gluten Free Snowball Cookies
Once you see how simple this one-bowl recipe is to make, these cookies are going to be your new favorite holiday snack!

The first step to making your gluten free cookies is to beat the unsalted butter. You can use a hand mixer or stand mixer to beat the ingredient until the it is creamy and smooth.

After that, add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract to the bowl. Beat the milk into the butter mixture until it’s well combined and smooth.

Then, add the gluten free flour and baking powder to the bowl with the wet ingredients. Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the butter mixture until the dough is light and fluffy, making sure not to over-mix your dough.

Finish creating the dough by folding in the chocolate chips. Since these are smaller cookies, it’s best to use mini chips when making this recipe!

After that, use a tablespoon or cookie scoop to scoop out the dough and roll it into a ball. Place each dough ball on a parchment paper lined pan. The cookies don’t rise or spread much, so the size you make them on the cookie sheet will be size of the baked cookies. If you prefer thin cookies, press the dough down more.

Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 12 to 14 minutes. The cookies will be light in color, but you’ll know when they’re done by checking the bottom. When your snowball cookies are finished baking, they’ll be golden brown on the bottom.
When the cookies are finished baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool on the pan for around five minutes. After that, transfer them to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
Place a paper towel or a sheet of parchment paper under the cooling rack to catch the excess powdered sugar. Then, place the powdered sugar in a sifter and dust the top of each cookie with sugar before serving.
How to Store Snowball Cookies
These cookies are so delicious, they’ll probably be gobbled up whenever you serve them! But if you have a few extras after the celebration is over, you can keep them in an airtight container at room temperature. They’ll stay good for up to one week.
You can also freeze your snowball cookies for more long-term storage. When freezing your cookies, it’s best to leave the powdered sugar off until you’re ready to serve them. Arrange the baked and cooled cookies on a flat tray or baking sheet (without the powdered sugar) and place the pan in the freezer. When the cookies are frozen solid, transfer them to a freezer bag for storage.
Allow the frozen cookies to thaw at room temperature, then decorate with powdered sugar before serving.
Snowball Cookie Recipe Ideas
This amazing cookie recipe is the perfect way to celebrate the holiday season with your gluten free friends and family members! And the best part about these simple treats is that you can easily customize the recipe!

As you’re whipping up your own Christmas cookies this holiday season, try these recipe substitutions and additions for a delicious treat every time you bake.
- Add some food coloring. These simple cookies are perfect for food coloring. I suggest adding the food coloring after mixing in the flour. Gel food coloring is a good option for this recipe because you don’t need much to add a nice shade to your cookie dough.
- Make thinner cookies. These cookies don’t rise or spread as they’re baking, so if you want thin cookies, you’ll need to flatten them before you put them in the oven. Simply press your palm down on the cookies until they’re the desired thickness, then pop them in the oven to bake.
- Leave out the chocolate chips. For a more classic snowball cookie, you can leave out the chocolate chips. Just follow the instructions for preparing the dough, then skip the step where the chocolate is folded in.
- Add different mix-ins. In addition to chocolate chips, you can change up this recipe by adding different add-ins to the dough. Try mixing finely chopped nuts, like pecans or walnuts, or crushed peppermint candy.
