Dinosaur Egg Chocolate Nests for Your Dinosaur Party
Dinosaurs are big deal in our house. We love learning all about the different varieties and making toy dinosaurs ROAR as we play. So, these adorable dinosaur egg nests were a big hit — especially since they’re sitting on top of a cupcake! Prepare the Chocolate Nests
While we turned these cute chocolate nests into dinosaur nests, they can be used for a variety of other occasions. Easter and Spring celebrations are perfect for these adorable cupcakes, too! And not only do these cute nest cupcakes look awesome, they’re also super simple to make!
These cute chocolate nests are a fun new twist on the classic haystack no-bake cookies. Those cookies are usually made with peanut butter, but I switched it up and used Nutella instead. It gives it a great chocolate flavor.
So to start making your own chocolate nests, add the Nutella, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips to a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 30 seconds. Take the bowl out and stir the ingredients. If they’re still not fully melted, place the bowl back into the microwave for 30 more seconds.
Give the chocolate mixture one more good stir, then pour in your chow mien noodles. Stir the noodles until they’re fully coated, using your spoon to break the noodles apart as you stir.
Breaking the noodles apart a bit as you stir will help make forming your chocolate nests a little bit easier because the pieces will be smaller and easier to manipulate. So don’t be afraid to really get in there and stir!
Use a large spoon to scoop out some of the chow mien mixture and place it on a piece of waxed or parchment paper. Then, use your fingers to form a nest shape with the mixture. Be sure to create an indention in the middle for your chocolate eggs to rest inside your chocolate nests. After you have formed all of your chocolate nests, place them in the refrigerator to cool.
Make the Nest Cupcakes
While you could eat these cute no-bake chocolate nests on their own as a cookie, why not take it up a notch? Use your dinosaur nests as cupcake toppers to really make your dinosaur party stand out!
I cheated a little bit and used a boxed mix and premade chocolate icing to make these cupcakes. You can use your favorite cake recipe or take the easy road (like I did!) and use a boxed mix, too! Pick whatever flavor cake you want, but I would suggest sticking with chocolate icing for the tops of the cupcakes. It pairs great with the chocolate nests on top!
Spread a thin layer of chocolate icing on top of each cupcake. Then, place the chocolate nests on top of each cake. Lightly press each chocolate nest into place to make sure it sticks to the icing on top.
Finish by placing a few chocolate eggs on top of each of your chocolate nests. And that’s it! Now you have some super cute dinosaur egg chocolate nests for your next dinosaur birthday party!
Dinosaur Egg Chocolate Nests

Ingredients
- 1 box white cake mix
- 1 jar premade chocolate frosting
- 1 cup hazelnut spread, Nutella
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- ½ cup peanut butter chips
- 2 cups chow mien noodles
- 1 bag candy coated chocolate eggs
Instructions
- Bake the cupcakes according to package directions. Allow to cool, then place a thin layer of chocolate frosting on top of each cupcake.
- In a large bowl, combine the hazelnut spread, chocolate chips, and peanut butter chips. Microwave on high for one minute, stopping halfway through to stir.
- Pour the chow mien noodles into the hazelnut spread mixture and stir to combine. Press the spoon into the mixture to break apart the noodles as you stir.
- Using a spoon, scoop out a spoonful of the chow mien noodle mixture and form it into a nest shape with your hands.
- Place each nest on a piece of wax paper to cool. To speed the cooling process, place the nests in the refrigerator.
- Once the nests have cooled, the chocolate will harden. Place each nest on top of a frosted cupcake.
- Add three chocolate eggs to the center of each nest.
