To make your own football strawberries, you’ll need just a few simple ingredients:

  • Fresh strawberries: Make sure to grab ripe strawberries for the best flavor when making these chocolate covered treats! Larger strawberries are also a great option to provide your guests with a delicious dessert.
  • Milk chocolate chips: While you can use any type of chocolate you want to coat your strawberries, I suggest milk chocolate for this recipe. That’s because this type of chocolate will give you a light brown coating for your treats, making them look more like footballs.
  • White chocolate: I used white melting candy to decorate my football strawberries, but you could also use almond bark or white chocolate for this step in the recipe.

Start by preparing your strawberries for dipping. First, wash and dry the berries. Then trim the leaves off the top of each strawberry.

After that, place a toothpick or small skewer into the top of each berry. If your sticks aren’t staying in place, dip them in melted chocolate and place them in the strawberries. Allow the chocolate to cool and harden before moving on to the next step.

Once the strawberries are ready to go, melt the chocolate chips in a mug for easy dipping. Place the mug in the microwave and heat in 30 second intervals, stirring between each interval.

Stop microwaving when the chocolate chips are almost all the way melted, with a few chips still intact. Then, continue stirring until all the chocolate is melted.

After that, you can carefully dip each strawberry in the melted chocolate. Then, place it on top of a fork to allow the excess chocolate to drip off. Lightly tap the handle of the fork on the edge of the mug to help the chocolate drip.

Then, transfer the coated strawberries to a piece of parchment paper to cool. You can place them in the refrigerator to speed up the cooling process.

Pipe the laces on the top of each football using the melted white chocolate. Allow the white chocolate to cool and harden before serving.

Uses these decorating tips to create an amazing dessert for your football party!

  • Don’t overheat the chocolate. When melting chocolate in the microwave, it can be easy to overcook it. And if you overcook the chocolate, it becomes unusable! That’s why it’s important to stop heating the chocolate before all the chocolate chips are fully melted. Remove the cup from the microwave when there are still a few chocolate chips intact, then stir to mix the unmelted chocolate chips into the melted chocolate.
  • Wipe your piping bag after each use. If you place your strawberries in the refrigerator to chill, they’ll be nice and cold for decorating. That could cause the white chocolate to harden at the tip of your piping bag as you’re drawing the laces on the footballs. To prevent the bag from clogging up, wipe the end of the piping bag with a warm paper towel after decorating each strawberry.
  • Dry the strawberries before decorating. After washing your berries, make sure to dry them completely before dipping them in chocolate. If there is any moisture on the outside of the berries, the chocolate won’t stick properly!
