How to Make BBQ Bacon Wrapped Smokies
After gathering up your ingredients, you’ll just need a few minutes of prep work to get started on this quick and easy recipe.
The first thing you’ll need to do is slice your bacon strips into thirds so the pieces are small enough to wrap around each sausage. Then, place a sausage on top of the bacon piece and roll it to cover the lil smokie. Continue rolling each sausage in bacon until they’re all covered. You can use toothpicks to hold the bacon in place if you want. But the bacon will begin to cling to the sausage as it cooks, so toothpicks aren’t absolutely necessary.
Now that all your cocktail franks are covered in bacon, place them in a baking dish. Sprinkle the brown sugar over the top of all the sausages. Lightly press the sugar into the bacon to help it stick to the top of the meat as it cooks.
Place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake the lil smokies for around 15 minutes, until the bacon is just starting to get crispy.
After that, remove the pan from the oven and brush the tops of all the sausages liberally with BBQ sauce. I would suggest adding more sauce that you think you’ll need because it will thicken as it cooks.
Return the pan to the oven and continue cooking the smokies for another 10 minutes, until the BBQ sauce begins to form a glaze over the top of the bacon.
