But my favorite part about this simple recipe is how easy it is to customize! To make the meat and cheese skewers like mine, you’ll need:

  • Cheese cubes. I purchased a few different block of cheese and cut them into cubes for my appetizer picks. My skewers were made with cheddar, Colby jack, pepper jack, and mozzarella cheese cubes.
  • Salami and pepperoni. Get large slices of salami and pepperoni from the deli for the best presentation. Large slices cut thinly make it easy to fold the meat into ruffles to create your Christmas wreath.
  • Olives, mini pickles, and cherry tomatoes. Add a lighter note to your meat and cheese by topping the skewers with a veggie. I used a mix of veggies to add some holiday color to each skewer.
  • Fresh rosemary. Create a wreath look with the help of some fresh rosemary sprigs to dress up the space around the skewers.
  • Toothpicks. Use toothpicks or other appetizer picks to hold all your charcuterie skewer ingredients together.

Putting these individually sized appetizers together couldn’t be easier! Just follow these quick and easy steps for folding and stacking your snacks, then arranging them on your serving tray.

There are a variety of ways you can stack your charcuterie skewers to create your wreath. The key to getting the right look is to use one:

  • Veggie
  • Slice of meat
  • Cheese cube

As you’re stacking your meat and cheese on the skewers, try alternating the colors and flavors to give each pick a holiday look. Combine red cherry tomatoes with white mozzarella cheese. Or add a green pickle to a skewer with a piece of red pepperoni.

To create a ruffled look with your meat slices, start by folding the slice of meat in half. Then, fold the meat in half again to create a wedge shape.

Once you push the meat slice onto the skewer. Pull the pieces apart slightly to help fluff it up and give it that ruffled effect.

After you have all the meat, cheese, and veggies arranged on the skewers, it’s time to make your wreath. Use a large round platter to display your charcuterie, then arrange the skewers around the platter in a circle. Once you have one circle complete, create a second row of skewers on top of the base layer.

Now that you have your wreath shape formed, grab your fresh rosemary sprigs. Cut the longer springs in half to create smaller pieces, then place the sprigs in the open spaces around your wreath.

Now that your charcuterie treats are decorated, it’s time to finish laying out your Christmas spread. Try adding these other snacks to your board to create an amazing Christmas appetizer arrangement.

  • Meats. Salami and pepperoni are my favorite options for creating charcuterie bites! But you can use any type of sliced meat you want to make your own wreath. Try creating skewers with turkey, ham, prosciutto, or roast beef.
  • Cheeses. Any small cheese cubes will work with this easy recipe. And in addition to cheese cubes, you can also decorate your toothpicks with Babybel cheese or mozzarella cheese balls.
  • Crackers. Adding a variety of crackers to your charcuterie board is a great way to balance out the meat and cheese in your Christmas skewers.
  • Vegetables. The color combination of red tomatoes and green pickles and olives is a great way to add some Christmas cheer to your board. You can also add black olives, tomato slices, or grapes.
  • Fresh herbs. Give your charcuterie board a festive holiday look by adding some “greenery” around your snacks. Springs of fresh rosemary, basil, parsley, and thyme are all great ways to decorate your board and add a delicious scent to the spread.
  • Spreads. Including some savory spreads along with the snacks is another simple way to add some variety to your charcuterie board. Try adding a cheese ball, pate, or cheese spread to the board with the rest of your snacks.
  • Dried fruits. Add some sweetness and a pop of color to your Christmas charcuterie by mixing in some dried fruits, like cranberries, raisins, pineapple, or banana chips.
  • Jellies and jams. Balance out the salty flavors of the meat and cheese with the help of some jellies and jams on your board. Fruit spread also make a great complement to the meats and cheeses.
  • Nuts. Your guests will love the addition of nuts to your board. They’re a great way to fill in gaps around the other ingredients and they give your party guests something small to snack on.
