Beach Themed Cookies

Everyone at your summer party will love these adorable beach cookies! On top of being simple to decorate, they’re also so fun to eat!

But the best part about this easy recipe is that you don’t have to have any special decorating skills to make them! All you have to do is grab these ingredients and follow the simple instructions below.

  • Sugar cookie dough. These cute cookies start out as a sugar cookie. I like using premade Pillsbury sugar cookie dough that’s already portioned out. Since the cookies are circles, there’s no need to roll or cut them! Just bake and decorate!
  • White icing. You can make things easy on yourself and use a jar of white icing or prepare your favorite white icing recipe from scratch. Once the icing is prepared, you’ll also need some blue food coloring to make it look like ocean water.
  • Graham crackers. To turn your cookies into a beach, you’ll need some graham cracker sand! You can use premade graham cracker crumbs or make your own by crushing a few graham crackers.
  • Teddy Grahams. You can use any flavor of Teddy Grahams to decorate the top of your cookies.
  • Rainbow sour belts. Create a cute towel for your bears to relax on with the help of some rainbow sour belts.
  • Paper drink umbrellas. Finish the decorations on the top of your cookies by adding a paper drink umbrella to the top of some of your beach treats.

How to Make Beach Cookies

You won’t believe how easy it is to make this adorable beach party food! And when you use premade cookie dough, they’re ready in a matter of minutes!

beach decorated sugar cookies

The first step to preparing these cute beach treats is to make the cookies. I used premade cookie dough to speed up the preparing process, but you can also bake your favorite sugar cookie recipe and make them from scratch.

Either way, you’ll need to make round sugar cookies and allow them to cool completely.

Once the cookies are cooled, it’s time to prepare your icing. If you’re making your frosting from scratch, prepare it according to the recipe instructions. After that, you can add the blue food coloring to give it the look of ocean water. I used three drops of blue gel food coloring to create a light blue color for the icing on my cookies.

When you’re satisfied with the color of your icing, spread a thin layer evenly over the top of each of your sugar cookies.

graham cracker sand for cookies

Next make your beachy sand by crushing some graham crackers. You can use a food processor or blender to finely chop the graham crackers. Or place the cookies in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to crush the cookies into a fine crumb.

Now that you have your ocean and your sand ready to go, it’s time to create a beach! Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over one half of each cookie. Lightly press the crumbs into the icing to ensure they stick, then lift up the cookie and lightly shake it to remove the extra crumbs from the top of each cookie.

After you have your beachy sand added to the top of your cookies, why not add some sun tanning bears on top? First, place a small piece of rainbow sour candy on top of the sand. Then, rest one Teddy Graham on top of the rainbow candy.

After that, you can finish decorating your cookies with a paper beach umbrella! Once all the cookies are decorated, they’re ready to be served at your beach party.
