What I love most about these simple cookies is that you only need four simple ingredients to make them. Here’s what you need to make your own dog cookies:
- Chocolate chip cookie dough
- Peanut butter cookie dough
- Candy eyes
- Chocolate chips
How to Make Dog Themed Cookies
Now that you have your ingredients gathered up and ready to go, it’s time to start baking! Follow these quick and easy instructions to make your own dog themed cookies for your birthday celebration.
Start by lining two large baking sheets with parchment paper and preheating your oven to 350 degrees.
While the oven is warming up, open both packages of cookie dough. Set aside half of the cookies from each package, then flatten the remaining cookies into small ovals. Arrange each flattened cookie on your prepared baking sheets, leaving around one inch of space between each cookie to give them room to spread.
After that, cut each of the remaining cookies into three even pieces. Roll one piece into a ball and place it on top of each cookie on the baking sheet to make the dog’s nose. I topped my peanut butter cookies with chocolate chip cookie dough noses and ears. And my chocolate chip cookie dough was topped with peanut butter noses and ears.
Make the ears with your remaining two pieces of cookie dough. Roll each piece into a ball, then roll it out slightly to lengthen it into a dog-shaped ear. Lightly press each ear into the top of the cookie dough faces on the baking sheet.
Once you have your cookies ready to go, place them in the oven to bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until they’re golden brown but still slightly soft.
While the cookies are still warm, press two candy eyes into the center of each cookie, right above the nose. Then, decorate the center of the nose with an upside down chocolate chip.
Dog Themed Cookie Ideas
While these cute treats are perfect dog-themed party food as-is, there are a few different variations you can make to the recipe to suit your tastes and needs. These changes are a great idea for your puppy birthday party:
- Leave out the peanut butter cookie dough. If you’re worried that someone at your party may have a peanut allergy, the peanut butter cookie dough can be left out of these treats. Instead, just grab two packages of chocolate chip cookie dough to make your dog themed cookies.
- Make your cookie dough from scratch. In addition to using premade cookie dough, you can also prepare your treats using your favorite chocolate chip cookie dough recipe. For the dog’s face, you’ll need one tablespoon of dough. The nose and each ear should be around one teaspoon of dough each.
- Bake gluten free dog themed cookies. It’s easy to prepare these as a gluten free treat! Just grab a package of Sweet Loren’s chocolate chip cookie dough!

Keep in mind that the ears on your cookies are fragile! They can break off easily, so it’s a good idea to store them in a single layer to keep the ears from coming loose.

Dog Themed Cookie Recipe
Use premade cookie dough to make these adorable dog cookies for your puppy themed birthday party!
Ingredients
- 1 package chocolate chip cookie dough
- 1 package peanut butter cookie dough
- 48 candy eyes
- 24 chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Place 12 of the peanut butter cookies on one sheet and 12 of the chocolate chip cookies on the other sheet, leaving at least one inch of space between each cookie. Lightly press down each cookie dough circle to flatten it.
- Cut the remaining cookies into three pieces each, and roll each piece into a ball.
- Flatten two chocolate chip cookie dough balls and place them at the top of each of the peanut butter cookies on the baking sheet to make dog ears. Lightly press them into place. Then, place a third chocolate chip cookie dough ball on top of the peanut butter cookies to make a nose. Lightly press it into place.
- Repeat the process with the remaining chocolate chip cookies on the pan, using the peanut butter cookie dough balls as ears and noses.
- Place the cookies in the oven to bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until just beginning to brown. Remove the pan from the oven and place one chocolate chip cookie on top of the dog's nose and add two candy eyes to the center of each cookie while they’re still warm.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the pan for five minutes, then transfer the dog cookies to a wire cooling rack to cool completely.
