Beach Snack Mix Ingredients

Making this snack mix is so easy! First, make the tangy garlic sauce to pour over the top of your snacks, then pick the perfect snack ingredients. Here’s what we used in our beach snack recipe:

  • Chex. Since this recipe is a beachy take on traditional Chex mix, we included corn Chex in the mix. Plus, my son said they look like rafts you take to the beach.
  • Whale crackers. Add some Stouffer’s Whales to your snack mix for some beachy fun.
  • Pretzel Goldfish. Include more fish in your snack mix by tossing in a bag of pretzel Goldfish, too.
  • Oyster crackers. Another fun way to bring the ocean to your snack mix is with some oyster crackers.
  • Cheerios. The round shape of original Cheerios looks like life rafts, making them another great addition to your beach snack.
  • Cheeseballs. Finish filling your snack mix with some beach-ball-shaped cheeseballs.

In addition to the snacks for your snack mix, you’ll also need a few ingredients for the sauce. To make the topping for your beach Chex mix, you’ll need:

  • Butter
  • Minced garlic
  • Worchestershire sauce
  • Lawry’s seasoning salt
  • Tabasco sauce
  • Onion powder

Once you have all your ingredients gathered, it’s time to get mixing! There are three basic steps to making this simple snack mix. First, make the sauce. Then, combine all the ingredients. And bake until crispy.

beach chex mix

To make the sauce for your Chex mix, start by placing the butter, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, seasoning salt, and Tabasco sauce in a small saucepan. Heat the ingredients over low heat until the butter is melted, stirring occasionally. After all the ingredients are combined, remove the pan from heat.

While your sauce is cooking, you can prepare the snack mix by combining all the snack ingredients in two large bowls. Stir up the ingredients until they’re mixed, then drizzle half the sauce mixture over the top of each bowl. Carefully stir the ingredients in each bowl until they’re coated with the butter mixture.

Spread the mixture in an even layer over a large baking sheet. The snack mix will need to be cooked in batches because it won’t all fit on one sheet. You can cook two sheets in the oven at one time, which means you’ll probably only need to cook in two different batchets.

Place the snack mix in the oven and cook for one and a half to two hours, rotating the pans halfway through the cooking time. When the cook time is up, remove the pans and allow the snack mix to cool on the pan, then transfer it to an airtight container to store.

Add more snack ingredients. You can add more snack mix ingredients to your recipe of your kids have other favorite snacks. We have made Chex mix with a variety of different ingredients, which means there are tons of great options to add to your own beach snack mix. Try mixing in some of these snacks:

  • Rice and wheat Chex
  • Mini pretzels or pretzel sticks
  • Bagel chips
  • Cracker sticks
  • Mini Saltine crackers
  • Potato sticks
  • Cheez-Its or Cheese Nips
  • Peanuts, cashews, or mixed nuts
  • Cheetos

If you add more snack ingredients to the mix, keep in mind that you may need to increase the amount of sauce you make. So, if you sigificantly increase the number of snacks in your recipe, it may be a good idea to double the sauce.

Put the snack mix in individual containers. If you’ll be taking your snack mix to the beach, it’s a good idea to store it in individual containers. Fill small snack bags or snacking containers with the mix to make it easy to eat while you’re sitting on the sand.
