Who doesn’t love making fun Halloween crafts to celebrate the holiday? To make this cute project, all you need are some mason jars, paint, and vinyl! And with the help of your favorite cutting machine, it only takes a few minutes to make your own jack o lantern mason jar.

With the help of your Cricut, you can put together a super cute mason jar project with just a few minutes of work. And after you put it together, there are so many amazing ways to use your DIY jack o lantern around your house!

Mason Jar Jack O Lantern

What I love the most about this easy mason jar craft is that you only need a handful of supplies to put it together. In fact, you probably already have everything you need in your craft stash right now!

To make this simple Halloween party craft, you’ll need just a few simple supplies. You can turn a plain glass jar into a jack o lantern using these supples:

• Mason jar: The most important item you’ll need to create this Halloween craft is a glass jar! I used a quart jar to create this project, but any size jar will work depending on how you plan to use your jack o lantern jars after you’re finished making them.
• Orange paint: I suggest using acrylic paint when painting your jars in a matte or satin finish. If you’re using a different type of paint, make sure it’s designed for painting glass or you may end up with a streaky mess on your jars.
• Paintbrush: When painting mason jars, I usually use a foam brush. You can also use a traditional paintbrush, just be sure to pick a brush with soft bristles to prevent brush strokes from showing on the jars.
• Jack o lantern face SVG: Keep reading to see how to download my jack o lantern face SVG so you can create your own Halloween jars at home.
• Vinyl and transfer tape. Cut the SVG design on vinyl to make the face for your jack o lantern. Since you’ll be using the vinyl as a sort of stencil, the color or design doesn’t really matter.
• Cricut: To cut the face for your jack o lantern jars, you’ll need a cutting machine to cut the vinyl. I use the Cricut Explore Air 2 and love it!

How to Make a Mason Jar Jack-O-Lantern

You can use your Cricut as a quick and easy way to transfrom a plain glass jar into a cute Halloween decoration. Just follow these simple steps to decorate your mason jars with a fun jack o lantern face.

Before you can cut your jack o lantern face on vinyl, you’ll need to download the ZIP file and extract your SVG. Then, you can upload it into Design Space. Start by selecting the “upload” button in the lefthand menu of the program. Then, select the file or drag it into design space.

Now that you have the SVG uploaded, you’ll need to resize it to fit on your mason jar. I used a quart sized jar, so I made my face around 2.25 inches wide. Before cutting your jack o lantern face, I suggest measuring the front of the jar you’re using it see how wide you need to make your own design.

Once the design is resized, it’s a good idea to select each piece of the face and hit the “weld” button in the bottom right corner. This will ensure that the pieces stay in place when they’re cut.

After that, it’s time to cut! First, place your vinyl on the cutting mat and load it into your Cricut. Turn the dial to vinyl, if needed, then hit the “make it” button at the top of Design Space. After that, you’ll need to selec “basic cut” and click continue. When the Cricut button starts flashing on your machine, hit it to start cutting the vinyl.

Once the jack o lantern face is cut, remove the vinyl from your cutting mat and use a weeding tool to remove the excess vinyl from around the face design. Then you can place a piece of transfer tape over the top of the jack-o-lantern face and transfer the face from the backing paper to the jar.

If the you’re having trouble getting the vinyl to stick to the glass, it probably needs to be cleaned. Add some rubbing alcohol to a paper towel and wipe the face of the jar. Give the alcohol a few seconds to dry, the try sticking the vinyl onto the jar again.

Once the vinyl face is added to the jar, grab your paint and paintbrush and start painting the entire jar orange. You’ll probably need several coats to completely cover the jar.

Allow the paint to dry completely, then grab your weeding tool one more time. Use the end of the hook to carefully remove the pieces of the face from the jar. If any paint made it’s way through under the edges of the vinyl, use the hook on your weeding to lightly scrape the extra paint away.
