Finding fun kid’s crafts is a great way to enjoy some creative time together with your little ones while they’re home from school this summer. But if you have little kids at home, you know that not all crafts are created equally — especially when you’re working with preschoolers. Luckily, this simple craft is perfect for kids in this age group!

On top of being so cute, this popsicle stick beach house craft can be put together with just a handful of simple kid’s craft supplies! To make your own preschool beach craft, you’ll need:

  • Large popsicle sticks: The foundation of your popsicle stick beach house is constructed with large popsicle sticks. The bigger the sticks you use, the larger your house will be when it’s finished! You’ll need a total of eight large popsicle sticks to make this house.
  • Small popsicle sticks: The door to your beach house is made with small popsicle sticks. You’ll need six small sticks to form the door of the house.
  • Sharp scissors: While this craft is easy to make with kids, there is one step that an adult should do. And that’s cutting the popsicle sticks to construct the house. That’s because to cut the popsicle sticks, you will need to use a pair of sharp scissors.
  • Glue: When building a house out of popsicle sticks, I found that hot glue is the easiest way to get your popsicle sticks to stick together. But if you’re making this craft with younger kids, you can also use plain white glue. Just keep in mind that you’ll need to hold the sticks in place while the glue dries to ensure they don’t pull up off the framework before the glue is dry.
  • Paint: To make your beach look like belongs on the ocean, you’ll need to use some beachy paint colors to decorate your house. We used teal and bright pink to decorate our house. Whatever colors you decide on, I suggest using acrylic craft paint to paint your popsicle sticks. It’s great for painting wood and safe for kids to use.

Now that you know what you’ll need, gather up your supplies and get started on your own DIY beach house craft right now!

How to Make a Beach House Out of Popsicle Sticks

Turning your plain wooden craft sticks into an adorable beach house is so easy! Just follow these quick steps to make cute house on the beach with your kids this summer.

The first step to constructing your popsicle stick house is to make the house itself. Start by lining up six large popsicle sticks on a flat surface. Make sure the ends of the sticks are lined up evenly.

After that, place two small popsicle sticks on the back and secure them in place with glue. You might need to trim the ends of your small popsicle sticks if they hang over the edge. Hold the sticks in place until the glue dries, pressing down on the sticks to keep them from pulling apart.

When the glue is dry on the back of your popsicle stick house, you can start painting. First, paint the house your chosen color. We used a blue-gree paint color as the base of the beach house, but you can use any beachy color combination you want!

Next, paint the accent pieces of your beach house. For the accent color, we used bright pink. You’ll need to paint to large sticks for the roof of the house and four small sticks for the door.

When all the paint is dry, it’s time to start trimming your decorative pieces to fit on the front of your beach house. To form the door, start by trimming the ends of the small sticks, making sure the’re all cut evenly.

If you’re making this craft with younger kids, I suggest taking the time to do this step yourself before you start putting the craft together.

It’s also a good idea to have some sandpaper on hand to smooth the rough edges at the ends of the sticks, which could cause a splinter.

After you have your door pieces ready to go, you’ll need to cut your roof pieces. To do this, line the two large popsicle sticks evenly on the top of the house. Then, use a pencil to draw a line at the center of the house, where the two pieces will meet. Repeat the same process on the other roof piece.

Cut each piece along that line, which will then form a peak when you glue the two sticks in place on top of the beach house.

Once all your trim pieces are cut and ready to go, all that’s left to do is glue them in place! Start by lining the two roof pieces up on the top of the house. Then, line the four door pieces together on the front.

As I mentioned earlier, using a hot glue gun is a simple way to get the wood pieces to stick together. But if you’d rather not use hot glue, you can white glue or even wood glue. To make sure the door and roof pieces stay in place, make sure to press them down while the glue dries.
