How to Make Halloween Pretzels
Since your Utz bats and jacks already come in spooky Halloween shapes, most of the work has been done for you! That means you you have to do is decorate your salty snacks with melted chocolate to create these cute party treats.
Before you can prepare your Halloween snacks, you’ll need to melt the chocolate. For the bat pretzels, I used dark chocolate chips.
You can melt your chocolate in a double broiler, but I’ve found the best way to melt chocolate is in the microwave. You just have to be very careful to avoid burning the chocolate!
Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl and place them in the microwave for 30 seconds. When the cook time is up, remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate chips. Keep repeating the process, stirring after every 30 second interval, until the chocolate is fully melted.
This method will help keep the chocolate from burning and seizing up. If you overcook your chocolate, it will seize up and become unusable.
After your chocolate has melted, separate all the bat pretzels out of the mix and start dipping. Place a pretzel in the chocolate and flip it to coat both sides.
Remove the pretzel from the chocolate with a fork, then lightly tap the handle of the fork on the side of the bowl to knock off the excess chocolate from the pretzel.
Transfer the coated bat pretzels to a piece of wax paper, then press two candy eyes into the the chocolate while it’s still soft. Continue this process until all the bats have been coated in chocolate.
Once you have all your bats coated, it’s time to start working on the jack o lanterns! Melt the orange candy melts according to the pacakge instructions, then start dipping your pretzels.
Place a pumpkin pretzel in the orange candy and flip it to coat both sides. Remove the pretzel from the chocolate with a fork, then lightly tap the handle of the fork on the side of the bowl to knock off the excess chocolate from the pretzel.
Transfer the coated pretzels to the waxed paper and all them to cool and harden before serving.
